Global Adventures with 'Jack Ryan'
"Being part of such a globally-focused production is truly a career highlight," shares Wendell, who is 56 years old, during an exclusive chat with Closer Weekly. The magazine is currently available on newsstands. "We’ve been fortunate to shoot in stunning locations like Morocco, Montreal, London, Paris, Moscow, New York, and Washington D.C. It's been an incredible journey, and I’ve cherished every moment," he says with enthusiasm. The series stars John Krasinski as the titular character. Filming for the third season was just about to kick off when concerns over the pandemic brought everything to a halt. "Our show relies heavily on international locations, so the pandemic hits at the core of what we do," he explains. "But we're staying patient and optimistic, waiting to see how things will move forward so we can resume production."
With filming on hold, Wendell has returned to his roots in New Orleans, spending quality time with his family. "This unexpected break has given me the chance to reconnect with my 95-year-old father," he shares warmly. "We're enjoying basketball games together and making sure to stay safe during these uncertain times."

What's It Like Working with John Krasinski?
John Krasinski isn't just a co-star but a kindred spirit for Wendell. "John is a blast to work with," he says with a smile. "He's incredibly dedicated, diving deep into the scripts to fully understand and break them down. He's a true student of his craft, and it shows. Our on-screen banter is as real off-screen as it is in the show. It's a joy working with someone so passionate and fun."
From 'The Wire' to 'Jack Ryan'
Wendell's illustrious career has seen him star in several high-profile series, including The Wire, Treme, Suits, and The Odd Couple. But which role has left the most lasting impression on fans? "I was at Piccadilly Circus in London, performing in Death of a Salesman, when Jack Ryan premiered," he recalls. "I was watching a megatron screen when someone spotted me and shouted, 'There you are, James Greer!' It was a great moment. While I'll always be recognized for Bunk on The Wire, I believe as time goes on, James Greer will also become a memorable character."
Law Enforcement Roles and Real-World Impact
Playing characters involved in law enforcement on Jack Ryan and The Wire has given Wendell a unique perspective on current global events. "When I was preparing for Jack Ryan, I met a CIA officer who inspired me," he says. "I asked him how he decided to join the CIA, knowing its history. He replied, 'We all need to fight racism. I chose to fight it from within the agency.' That resonated deeply with me, adding layers to James Greer's character and making him more authentic and complex."
The Wire challenged viewers by highlighting the moral ambiguity at the heart of institutional corruption. "If these issues aren't addressed, they can spread and destroy us," he warns. "This theme is reflected in today's protest movements, urging us to confront these injustices head-on."
