From a young age, music was the heartbeat of Dionne Warwick's life. Born into a family where melodies and harmonies filled the air, Dionne began her journey in music at the tender age of six, singing in church. By the time she graduated high school, she was already making waves as a professional backup singer. The New Jersey-born icon recalls that pursuing music seemed almost "preordained" for her. But, like any smart artist, she had a fallback plan. "I went to college to become a teacher," Dionne exclusively shares with Closer. "Education was my major, and piano was my minor." Fortunately for millions of fans who fell in love with her timeless hits like "I Say a Little Prayer," "I’ll Never Fall in Love Again," "Walk On By," and "Do You Know the Way to San José?", her Plan A worked out beautifully.

It’s hard to believe that this vibrant music icon, who typically maintains a rigorous touring schedule in a normal year, is about to celebrate her 80th birthday! "I’m very excited about it," Dionne says with enthusiasm. "I have no reason not to celebrate this milestone in my life. I feel incredibly blessed to be able to say I’m turning 80." To mark the occasion, she's hosting a virtual birthday extravaganza and fundraiser on December 12, inviting fans from around the globe to join in the celebration.

Back on the Road: Dionne's Anticipation for Live Performances
Like so many performers, Dionne had to postpone numerous concert appearances this year due to unforeseen circumstances. Yet, her spirit remains undeterred. "Yes, absolutely," she says when asked about returning to the stage. "It’s just a matter of when, not if. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of singing a song that puts a smile on someone’s face. That connection with the audience is something I cherish deeply."
The Secret to Dionne's Endless Energy
So where does Dionne get her seemingly endless energy? "I think it comes from a deep love for what I do," she explains. "I love to sing. Singing and music create a joyous feeling that everyone wants to be a part of, and I’m fortunate enough to have the ability to share that joy with others. It’s not just about performing; it’s about making a difference in people's lives through music."
