The 76-year-old Hollywood icon couldn’t be happier about the arrival of his newest grandchild. His eldest son, Cameron Douglas, and Cameron's long-term partner, Viviane Thibes, welcomed their second child together. And let me tell you, Michael is over the moon about it.
In a heartwarming moment, Michael took to the comments section of Cameron’s Instagram post to express his joy. The photo showed Cameron, Viviane, their 3-year-old daughter Lua, and their newborn son, named Ryder, who was born on December 22. Michael commented, “What a holiday present!” capturing the festive spirit perfectly. He also joked, “Don’t think Lua is sure about this yet!” It’s clear that Lua, the older sister, might still be processing the changes in the family dynamic.
Catherine Zeta-Jones Joins in the Celebration
Michael’s wife, the stunning Catherine Zeta-Jones, also chimed in with her own message of love and support. The Mask of Zorro star, who’s 51, couldn’t resist pointing out Lua’s expression in the family photo. “Lua’s face!” she wrote, teasing her stepdaughter’s less-than-thrilled reaction. Since that moment, Michael has been absolutely smitten with his granddaughter. In fact, Cameron revealed in a 2019 interview with Closer Weekly that Lua has a way of melting her grandfather’s heart. “She softens him up,” Cameron said. “It’s cute to see. She calls him ‘Bubba,’ and he likes to sit her on his chest and tries to get her to say it.”
Cameron loves watching the bond between his father and Lua grow stronger. “I bring Lua over to see him every weekend, and I’m teaching her to swim at his house,” he shared. “She lights him up and vice versa.” While many of Michael’s films might be too mature for Lua to enjoy right now, Cameron has plans to introduce her to some family-friendly movies. “My father just did a voice for Green Eggs and Ham, so I think Lua will totally love that,” Cameron noted. “Then maybe my grandfather’s film 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.”
