When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided to step away from their roles as senior members of the royal family, it sent shockwaves around the world. But amidst all the drama, one of Harry’s fellow Brits stepped up to show unwavering support. David Beckham, the legendary soccer star, made it crystal clear that he’s got Harry’s back—especially when it comes to fatherhood. In fact, David couldn’t help but shower praise on the Duke of Sussex for being such an incredible dad to his 9-month-old son, Archie.
Speaking candidly to Entertainment Tonight, David, who’s 44 years old, gushed about how much joy Harry seems to be finding in fatherhood. “I think he’s enjoying being a young father for the first time, and that’s what we always spoke about,” David said. “You know, when you become a parent, it changes your entire perspective. It changes everything about you.”

From Soccer Dad to Royal Supporter
David Beckham isn’t just any dad; he’s the proud father of four children—Brooklyn, 23, Romeo, 17, Cruz, 15, and Harper, 7—with his long-time wife, Victoria Beckham. So, when it comes to parenting, he knows a thing or two. That’s why he couldn’t help but commend Harry, who turned 35 last year, for the dedication he’s shown since welcoming baby Archie with former Suits actress Meghan Markle, 38, in May 2019.

“Harry always needs to be happy,” David emphasized. “We love him, and he’s an amazing person—that’s the most important thing. But I’m really proud to see him growing up as an individual and becoming the kind of father that every parent dreams of being. Every dad wants to be loving, supportive, and present for their kids, and that’s exactly what I see with Harry.”
Friendship Before Formalities
While David was glowing with pride over his royal friend, he admitted that he hasn’t yet spoken to Harry about the couple’s bold decision to split their time between the U.K. and North America. “I haven’t had a chance to talk to Harry about his move,” David explained. “But you know, we speak as friends, and that’s what matters most to me. The friendship comes first, and everything else falls into place after that.”
