There’s something incredibly heartwarming about the bond between a grandparent and their grandchild. In the case of Carol Burnett, the legendary star of The Carol Burnett Show, that connection has taken on new meaning as she and her husband, Brian Miller, step in to provide stability for her grandson, Dylan Hamilton West. An insider exclusively tells Closer Weekly that Carol and Dylan “adore each other,” and this relationship will only deepen now that Carol has been awarded temporary guardianship of her 14-year-old grandson.
A Temporary Role with Lasting Impact
At 87 years young, Carol Burnett continues to demonstrate her unwavering commitment to her family. Alongside her husband, Brian, who is 64, Carol was appointed temporary guardians of Dylan on September 1, according to court documents obtained by Closer Weekly. This arrangement is set to last until January 8, 2021, during which time Carol and Brian will ensure Dylan has the love, support, and stability he needs. The decision comes amid challenges faced by Dylan’s mother, Erin Hamilton, who is reportedly dealing with substance abuse issues.

“Dylan now lives with them,” the insider reveals. “They adore each other. They’re kindred souls. He has Carol’s sense of humor and charm. He’s a truly wonderful young man.” This bond between grandmother and grandson is a testament to the strength of their connection, even in the face of challenges.

A Difficult but Necessary Decision
According to court documents, Carol expressed concerns about the instability and unpredictability of Dylan’s life with his mother, Erin. She noted that Erin has previously struggled with substance abuse, including past drug use and expressing suicidal thoughts in front of Dylan. On top of that, Dylan’s father, Tony West, has also reportedly battled addiction and is unable to provide financial support for his son. These circumstances led Carol to take action, ensuring Dylan has the safe and nurturing environment he deserves.
As for Erin, Carol claims her daughter has been institutionalized eight times due to substance abuse issues. Despite these challenges, the Golden Globe-winning actress has tried to support her daughter by funding numerous rehab programs and therapy sessions. “She’s doing everything and did everything she could possibly do,” the source explains. However, Carol recognizes that sometimes tough love is necessary. “She’s focused on helping her grandson Dylan right now. Erin has to help herself,” the insider adds.
