Have you ever found yourself stuck in an unexpected situation and thought, "What would I do?" Well, Kelly Ripa has been there—and her reaction is nothing short of fascinating. Imagine being trapped in an elevator in your own home. For most people, it’s a nightmare. But for Kelly, it was almost... peaceful?
A Tale of Two Reactions
On a recent episode of Live With Kelly and Ryan, Kelly shared a story about a woman who spent 15 grueling hours stuck in a gondola lift in Lake Tahoe. “Your worst nightmare happened,” Kelly, now 53, told her husband, Mark Consuelos. But here’s the twist: while Mark would be absolutely terrified, Kelly handled her own real-life elevator entrapment with remarkable calm.
Kelly went on to explain how her family once experienced a similar situation. “Her family reported her missing, and I know how claustrophobic you are,” she said to Mark. “I was thinking, like, what would happen if that were us?”

Mark's Worst Fear
Now, let’s talk about Mark. The 52-year-old actor absolutely despises confined spaces. It’s not just a mild discomfort; it’s a full-blown fear. “I’m thinking about it right now, and the gondolas usually have little windows that you could crack the window,” he explained. For Mark, having fresh air is crucial. “If I was stuck in an elevator for 15 hours… just talking about it, I would probably have to leave. I can’t even think about that,” he admitted. “But a gondola? I could probably get through it.”
Kelly's Unexpected Zen
On the flip side, Kelly approaches such situations with a surprising level of calm. “Being trapped in a small space for hours at a time sounds like heaven,” she joked. “It sounds almost like a vacation.”
And it’s not just talk. Kelly recounted a time when she was actually trapped in an elevator in her New York City home. “Remember when I was trapped in the elevator when we lived downtown?” she asked Mark. “I was trapped in the elevator for two hours. The fire department had to come, and [I was] listening to Mark struggle with the kids because I could hear them through the elevator shaft.”
But here’s the kicker: instead of panicking, Kelly used the time productively. “I was on my computer. I got all of my work done. I got everything done,” she said with a laugh. “You would hear the kids like, ‘Mommy are you OK?’ And then they would start fighting and then they would fight with Mark. Mark was like, ‘Are you OK? Do you need anything?’ I was like, ‘Just leave me alone.’”

It’s a fascinating contrast between the two. While Mark would be sweating bullets, Kelly sees it as an opportunity to get some peace and quiet—and maybe even knock out some work.
Switching Gears: Super Bowl Buzz
During the same episode, Mark also chimed in about the upcoming Super Bowl. After the Kansas City Chiefs triumphed over the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game on January 28, Mark couldn’t help but express his admiration for one particular player. “That guy. That quarterback [Patrick] Mahomes is so good, it’s annoying,” the Riverdale actor joked, drawing mixed reactions from the audience.
