Let’s talk about Richard Gere, shall we? The legendary actor recently opened up about his life as a dad in a candid interview with Vanity Fair Spain. And honestly, it’s refreshing to hear how grounded he is, despite his superstar status. Gere shared some insightful and heartfelt moments about raising his kids and how his family life has evolved over the years.

Life at Home With Three Little Ones

In the interview, Richard, now 74, gave us a peek into his day-to-day life with his three young children. He revealed that family life doesn’t involve a lot of nights out on the town. “The truth is, we don’t go out much. We have three small children—an 11-year-old, a 5-year-old, and a 4-year-old,” he explained. “So by 9:30 at night, we’re all asleep. If we do watch something, it’s usually on the big television we have at home.” Sounds like a pretty normal routine for any parent, right? It’s clear that family time is a priority for Gere.

Richard also spoke about the decision to move his family to Spain, where his wife, Alejandra Silva, is originally from. This move seems to be a big part of their family dynamic now. Interestingly, he mentioned that neither his wife nor his eldest son, Homer, 24, has seen many of his iconic films, including classics like Runaway Bride, Chicago, and Shall We Dance?. “He doesn’t understand it,” Richard said of Homer, whom he shares with his ex-wife Carey Lowell. “And it’s also very difficult for him to see me on the screen because, even if I play an extreme character, I’m still his father, and it’s tough for him to get into the story.”

    Acting Runs in the Family

Despite the challenges of having a dad in the spotlight, Richard revealed that acting has become a shared interest between him and Homer. “As it happens, he’s just started acting too. He’s suddenly become interested,” Richard told the publication. “He’s been writing and directing little movies, so we have this new thing in common.” It’s heartwarming to see how father and son are bonding over their shared passion for the craft.

    A Journey to Parenthood

Before meeting Alejandra Silva in 2014, Richard had been married twice. The couple hit it off when Richard stayed at a hotel in Positano, Italy, owned by Alejandra’s family. They started dating that year and eventually tied the knot in 2018. Richard and Alejandra announced they were expecting their first child together that same year, and son Alexander was born in 2019. In April 2020, they welcomed their second child, a son whose name remains private. Alejandra is also a mother to son Albert from a previous relationship.

Richard has spoken about becoming a dad several times in the past, often crediting his stepfather role with Carey’s daughter, Hannah Dunne, as the moment he truly warmed up to the idea of parenthood. “It was actually quite simple. I never had an issue about children one way or the other,” he explained in a 2002 interview with The Guardian. “With Carey, she had a child from a previous marriage, and it was just a natural thing, caring for this child, having our own child. It was totally spontaneous and right.”
