Hey there, friends. Steve Martin, the legendary comedian and actor, recently shared some heartfelt thoughts about his personal life, including his marriage to Anne Stringfield. His fans couldn’t help but swoon over his candid reflections. Let’s dive in and explore what this iconic figure has to say about love, heartbreak, and the joys of fatherhood.
Steve Martin's Journey to Finding True Love
In the new Apple TV+ documentary, STEVE! (martin) a documentary in 2 pieces, the 78-year-old actor reveals a more vulnerable side of himself. Steve opens up about the ups and downs of his romantic life, including his past heartbreak from his divorce with his first wife, Victoria Tennant, in 1994. It’s clear that this experience shaped his perspective on love and relationships.
Steve recalls his first marriage with a mix of humor and honesty: “When I married Victoria Tennant, I liked her a lot. She was very funny, very amusing, smart, and English. Our relationship sort of just slid into a romance. Looking back, part of me thought, ‘Hey, I guess I should get married,’ which, let’s be honest, isn’t the best reason to tie the knot. There’s just no way to force love.”

Meeting Anne Stringfield: Love at First Conversation
Fast forward to Steve’s encounter with Anne Stringfield, who worked at The New Yorker. Their meeting was anything but ordinary. Anne was assigned to fact-check one of Steve’s stories, and that’s where their connection began. The two talked on the phone for an entire year before deciding to meet in person. Talk about building a strong foundation!
Steve shared his thoughts with his therapist at the time: “I remember telling my shrink, ‘There’s this woman who’s stuck in my head.’ It was clear from the start that Anne was different. She had this way of making me feel like I could be myself.”
Embracing Parenthood Later in Life
When Steve and Anne tied the knot in 2007, parenthood wasn’t initially on their radar. But as life unfolded, Steve found himself inspired by one of his costars in Father of the Bride. He realized that the idea of fatherhood wasn’t as daunting as he once thought.
Steve explained: “Movie fatherhood paved the way for actual fatherhood. I had this moment when I was with Diane Keaton, and her daughter was playing in the yard. I looked out and thought, ‘You know what? I could see a kid out there playing in the backyard.’ It was a lightbulb moment for me.”

In 2012, Steve and Anne welcomed a daughter, bringing immense joy to their lives. To protect their child’s privacy, they chose not to include any footage of her in the documentary. This decision reflects their dedication to raising her away from the spotlight.
Steve admits that fatherhood at the age of 67 was a life-changing experience. “The first time I saw true love in my life was after the baby was born. I looked over at Anne, and she’s holding the baby. And she’s looking into her face, and there’s no one else on the planet. It’s this overwhelming feeling that I’ll never forget.”
