Listen, you’ve heard it all when it comes to celebrity gossip, but this one takes the cake. Sheinelle Jones, the beloved co-host of the Today show, recently put an end to a rumor that had her co-workers buzzing: the idea that she doesn’t have a belly button. Now, before you start thinking this is some kind of alien conspiracy, let me tell you what really went down.
It All Started with a Laugh
The story begins with a lighthearted moment on set. Craig Melvin and Al Roker couldn’t stop giggling about something that happened before the cameras rolled. You know how it is—those moments behind the scenes where laughter is contagious. Al, who’s been around the block a few times at 69 years old, decided to share the inside joke with the audience. “The reason why Craig is having a problem,” Al explained with a grin, “is that we just revealed the fact that Sheinelle didn’t have a belly button. And now, she has one.”
Sheinelle Joins the Fun
Sheinelle, 45, wasn’t about to let her co-hosts have all the fun. She played along, calling the whole thing an “urban legend.” But then she clarified things for everyone. “Yes, I do have a belly button,” she said with a laugh, “but I had to tweak it a little.” She went on to explain how motherhood changes your body. As a mom to son Kayin and twins Clara and Uche with her husband Uche Ojeh, she’s experienced her fair share of life’s transformations. “If you saw me, you would never know,” she added with a smile.

Craig’s Curiosity Gets the Best of Him
Craig, 44, couldn’t help but dig a little deeper. “Oh, is it a medical thing? But you’re okay, right?” he asked, clearly intrigued. Eventually, though, they moved on to their scheduled segment, with Dylan Dreyer stepping in to keep things rolling. It was all in good fun, and Sheinelle later expressed her gratitude for being part of such a supportive team.
Just last week, she took to Instagram to share her appreciation for the Today show family. “I’m thankful for good mornings and I’m thankful for you!” she wrote alongside a carousel of photos from the set. “Even when I don’t feel like it some days walking in, these folks make my heart happy and I always leave encouraged! I hope we can do the same for you too. ❤️ @todayshow.”

Sheinelle didn’t stop there. She also gave her fans an update on a recent mishap she had while out for a run. “I’m running down the street, and I fall on my face in New York City,” she told her Instagram followers in a video posted on Tuesday, April 2. “And so, I’m just bringing you behind the scenes, here. The last couple [of] days, after the show, I have been icing my knees.”
While the fall left her with some bruises and scrapes on her knees and chin, Sheinelle took it as a learning opportunity. “Be more mindful of how I move,” she reflected, proving that even the most put-together people can learn something from a stumble.
