When Chaos Met Romance: Tom Selleck Remembers His Big Day
Let's talk about a wedding day that turned into a real-life sitcom. Tom Selleck, the charismatic star of "Blue Bloods," reminisced about the unforgettable moment when his second wife, Jillie Mack, walked down the aisle on August 7, 1987. But here's the twist—there was a bit of a hiccup. The couple realized they had left their marriage license behind, adding a layer of chaos to an already emotional day.
In a recent interview with People, the 79-year-old actor opened up about this memorable incident. "Jillie was getting ready in a little room off the chapel, and my mom was there too. She was pregnant at the time," Selleck recalled. "Jillie can talk fast, loud, and a lot, and I heard all this commotion. Turns out, we had all forgotten the license!"
A Reverend to the Rescue
Now, you might think the wedding was doomed, but not so fast. The couple’s reverend offered an unexpected solution. "He said he could sign the thing anyway," Selleck shared. "What I remember most about the wedding is that our reverend went all the way to Reno himself to fetch the license. He made sure we could still have dinner and enjoy our special day. It was an adventure, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything."

Creating the Perfect Day
Despite the minor mishap, Tom and Jillie worked hard to make their wedding day special. They added personal touches, like Astroturf decor, to create a unique atmosphere. "We wanted everything to be just right," Selleck said. "Even the little details mattered to us."
Tom first met Jillie while she was performing as Rumpleteazer in the West End production of Cats. He was filming the movie Lassiter in London at the time and became captivated by her performance. "I saw the musical eight times because I was fascinated by this one kitten on stage," he shared on Live With Kelly & Ryan in 2017. "She had so much personality and looked great in a leotard."
From Stage to Love Story
Jillie's agent revealed the start of their romance to People. "They had dinner one night, and it just clicked," she said. After Jillie's contract with Cats ended, she moved to the U.S. to continue her relationship with Tom. A few years later, the couple secretly tied the knot in a small ceremony near Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Their daughter, Hannah Selleck, was born in December 1988.
The Secret to a Long-Lasting Marriage
In 2021, Tom shared his thoughts on maintaining a successful marriage with Jillie for over three decades. "I like to think I’m pretty romantic," he said. "I get up before Jillie and put on the teakettle so her tea water is hot when she wakes up." An insider told Closer that the couple still loves spending time together. "They enjoy the simple life," the source added.
Before marrying Jillie, Tom was married to actress Jacqueline Ray from 1971 to 1982. During their marriage, he adopted Jacqueline's son, Kevin Shepard.
