On Monday, April 15, Kelly Clarkson, the beloved singer, and TV host, opened up about her deeply emotional experiences during her pregnancies while discussing the Arizona Supreme Court’s near-total abortion ban on her show, The Kelly Clarkson Show. Her candid conversation with former First Lady Hillary Clinton revealed the raw, unfiltered side of motherhood that many women can relate to.
Kelly’s Emotional Moment with Hillary Clinton
During the heartfelt episode, Kelly Clarkson, now 41, revealed the harrowing details of her pregnancies, which led her to be hospitalized both times. Speaking to her guest Hillary Clinton, she confessed, “I’ve been pregnant twice, and both times I ended up in the hospital.” The emotional weight of her experiences became evident as Kelly continued, “I literally prayed to God, not joking, ‘Just take me and my son’ during my second pregnancy. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through… I didn’t think I’d get this emotional, I’m sorry.”
As Kelly wiped away her tears, Hillary Clinton, 76, extended her compassionate support. Hillary reassured Kelly, saying, “It’s okay, because you’re speaking for countless women. You’re giving a voice to millions of women in our country and across the globe who have faced similar challenges.”

Kelly’s Journey as a Mother
Kelly Clarkson is the proud mother of two children, River Rose and Remington, whom she welcomed during her marriage to Brandon Blackstock. Although their marriage officially ended in March 2022, the memories of her pregnancies remain vivid. In a previous episode of CBS This Morning in November 2015, Kelly shared her experience with "all-day sickness," revealing, “I had to get IVs and fluids because I was so dehydrated. It was incredibly tough.”
Recalling her first pregnancy, Kelly admitted it was a tough journey. “I was vomiting a dozen times a day. It was so bad. I threw up before coming out here,” she shared during a December 2013 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “It’s not glamorous at all. Everyone says you glow and your hair looks great, but that’s not true for me. My nails were short, my hair was falling out, and there was no glow unless it was from a bad throw-up. It was truly horrible.”
The Beauty of Motherhood Despite the Challenges

Despite the difficulties she faced, Kelly wouldn’t trade her role as a mother for anything. She once shared, “I don’t want to be one of those pop star moms who doesn’t see their kids. For some, they’re almost like an accessory. I want to be present and hang out with them. It’s a challenge to balance being a great mom and excelling at work, but I’m fortunate to have a supportive team. Sometimes, I have to let go of control and accept that I can’t be there for everything. But by showing my kids that you can achieve great things with hard work, you can also have fun and enjoy life, I’m setting a positive example.”
