Let’s talk about Joy Behar, shall we? The outspoken comedian and co-host of The View isn’t one to shy away from sharing her thoughts, and during a recent episode, she delivered an emotional confession that left her co-hosts visibly moved. Joy, now 81, opened up about what it would mean to leave the show, and her words resonated deeply with her fellow co-hosts.
Jason Kelce's Retirement Sparks Reflection
On Tuesday, March 5, during an episode of The View, Joy and her colleagues discussed the emotional retirement announcement of Philadelphia Eagles star Jason Kelce. At 36, Jason decided it was time to hang up his cleats, and the press conference was filled with heartfelt moments as he choked back tears. Jason's younger brother, Travis Kelce, and their mom, Donna Kelce, were by his side during this bittersweet occasion.
“He sounds more upset that he’s leaving his friends,” Joy remarked about Jason’s retirement announcement. Joy, who’s been a part of The View for over two decades, went on to reveal that when she eventually leaves the show, it won’t be due to concerns about her future. Instead, it will be because she’ll miss her friends on the show. “That’s basically it,” she said with heartfelt sincerity.

Co-Hosts React to Joy's Honest Words
Sunny Hostin couldn’t help but reach for Joy’s hand while Sara Haines gave her colleague a warm hug following her candid confession. “I love when you say that,” Sara, 46, responded with genuine affection.
Alyssa Farah Griffin also chimed in with comforting words: “The good news is you can never leave us.”
Looking Ahead: Joy's Future on The View
As Joy approaches her 80th birthday, she’s made it clear that she has no immediate plans to step away from The View. In fact, last October, she signed a new contract, ensuring her presence on the show for the foreseeable future. “I have no plans to retire,” Joy told People, expressing her continued enthusiasm for the program.
Currently, Joy holds the title of the longest-serving host on The View. She first joined the daytime talk show in 1997 as one of the original panelists. “I’m happy to be a part of it. So no, I’m not going anywhere. I’m having a good time,” she shared, emphasizing her love for the show and her fellow co-hosts.
Joy did leave the show briefly in 2013 but returned in 2015. Reflecting on that period, she told Time Magazine in July 2022, “I was glad to be fired. I basically was sick of the show at that point for some reason, I don’t even remember why.”

Despite some heated discussions with her co-hosts over the years, Joy has always cherished her time on The View. When she returned to the show in 2015, she expressed her delight at being welcomed back. “Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in,” she said at the time. “And I’m looking forward to sticking my two cents into the hot topics.”

It seems that viewers can rest easy knowing Joy isn’t planning to retire anytime soon. “It’s really, you know, something that is an important show in many ways,” the comedian explained. “Sometimes I don’t believe that, as I’ve been here since the beginning, but we’re the most-watched show in daytime. Most-watched!”
