Staying Positive Amidst the Chaos
Quarantine life hasn’t been easy for anyone, but Meredith Vieira is finding a silver lining. The legendary Today show host has been hunkered down with her husband, Richard Cohen, since March. Meredith, who’s 66, tells Closer Weekly in a heartfelt interview that she feels “very fortunate” to have her family close by, even if her three kids are spread across the country. “This space we’ve created isn’t just a house—it’s our home, and it brings me immense peace,” she shares. “Being with Richard has reminded me how much I value my life and the lives of everyone around us.”
Keeping the Family Close, Even from Afar
Meredith and Richard have been holed up in their New York home since March, but their kids—Benjamin Cohen, 31, Gabriel Cohen, 29, and Lily Cohen, 27—are scattered across the country. Despite the distance, they’ve managed to stay connected in creative ways. “We use Zoom and talk every day,” Meredith says with a smile. She adds that while conversations with her daughter Lily have become shorter as cities reopen, they still connect daily. “It’s reached the point where we say, ‘What’s new?’ And if nothing’s new, we just say goodbye. But that’s okay—it’s still a daily connection.”
Facing Challenges Together
Though Meredith is focused on the positives, the past few months haven’t been without their struggles. Her eldest son, Ben, and his girlfriend contracted coronavirus back in February. “Ben had a fever, but he was incredibly lucky—he never needed hospitalization,” Meredith tells Closer. “Now, he’s tested negative for a while and has been able to donate blood and plasma. It’s a great way to give back, and I’m so proud of him.”
