Fans of the show, led by the incredible Shemar Moore, don’t need to worry—CBS is going out with a bang. The series will conclude with a two-hour finale, airing back-to-back episodes at a special time on the network. A Look at What's Coming: Part 1 of the S.W.A.T. Finale
CBS gave fans a sneak peek into part 1 of the S.W.A.T. series finale in a press release on Friday, March 21. Titled “Ride or Die,” this episode promises to deliver an exciting plot filled with action, drama, and some familiar faces from the past. If you’ve been following the series, you know that Hondo and his team have faced their fair share of challenges. But this time, they’re up against something truly unique.
According to CBS, “When an auto carrier truck gets hijacked by a high-speed crew, Hondo encounters a ghost from his past – a violent car thief thought to be long-dead.” This sets off a chain of events that takes the team on a thrilling ride across Los Angeles in pursuit of a mysterious $60 million car. But it’s not just about the mission. Hondo’s old rivalry is reignited, forcing him to confront a long-held fear. Meanwhile, Gamble finds herself in a personal crisis when her brother, Leon, gets tangled up in the investigation, putting her future with the SWAT team in jeopardy.

Part 2: A Final Mission Like No Other
In the second part of the finale, titled “Return to Base,” the SWAT team faces their ultimate challenge. A violent crew of ex-pat Russian mercenaries has taken Los Angeles hostage after planting hundreds of hidden explosives across the city. Their goal? To extort the release of their brutal leader, Dmitri Rykov. When Rykov is brought to SWAT for safekeeping, SWAT HQ comes under attack. This forces Hondo and the 20-Squad to fight for their very survival. It’s a high-stakes mission that will test their skills, courage, and camaraderie like never before.

The special back-to-back episodes will air on Friday, May 16, at 9:00 p.m. ET on CBS and will also be available for streaming on Paramount+. Whether you’re a long-time fan or a newcomer, these episodes promise to deliver the excitement and emotion that have defined S.W.A.T. from the start.
Fans were heartbroken when they learned that CBS was officially canceling the Shemar Moore-led action drama. The show had previously been canceled and uncanceled twice, but this time, it seems the decision is final. Shemar, who has been a driving force behind the show’s success, shared his feelings about the news in an Instagram video on March 7. “We are canceled again. It sucks. It’s sad. Had to give a speech today on set to the crew,” the 54-year-old actor said, expressing his disappointment and gratitude for the journey.

Reflecting on the show’s journey, Shemar added, “Uncanceled, canceled, uncanceled twice, two years in a row. Now I don’t know my history, but how many shows get to say that? I’m going to say none or I’m going to say that we’re close to one of the none. But we did that and we are so proud.” Despite the cancellation, Shemar remains hopeful that another network or streaming service might pick up the show.
“NBC, Fox, ABC: Hey, you want to come flirt with me? You’re invited to the barbecue. Pick your favorite restaurant. I will pay the bill,” Shemar joked in the clip. However, no matter what happens, he is grateful for the experience and is currently enjoying his role as a dad to daughter Frankie, whom he shares with ex-girlfriend Jesiree Dizon.
“I’m excited about my new chapter. Right now, I’m just going to chase around my little baby girl, my little daughter, but then I’ll get back on the saddle, put my cape on and go be Shemar Franklin Moore,” the Young and the Restless actor said. “But hey, us over here at S.W.A.T., we say thank you, but we ain’t done handling our business. So holler at us.”
