Zelda Williams Opens Up About Missing Robin Williams on His Death Anniversary

For Zelda Williams, the emotional weight tied to her father Robin Williams' passing remains too overwhelming to navigate publicly. The daughter of the beloved comedian, who tragically died by suicide at the age of 63 in 2014, has expressed why she chooses not to honor her dad’s memory on the sixth anniversary of his death, which took place on August 11.

“Tomorrow marks the anniversary of my dad’s passing," Zelda, now 31, wrote in an emotional post on social media on August 10. "As always, I won’t be present to mark the day. It’s difficult for me, even on regular, good days, to be the person expected to graciously accept the world’s desire to share their memories of him and express their condolences for his loss.”

Why Zelda Finds It Hard to Commemorate Her Dad's Memory

While Zelda, the talented actress from the film House of D, acknowledges being deeply moved by the enduring love people have for her father, she often feels swamped by the emotional load. "Some days, it feels like I’m seen as a roadside memorial—a place, not a person—where people drive by and leave their sentiments before moving on with their day, comforted by the belief their love for him was witnessed," Zelda expressed.

“But sometimes, that leaves me emotionally buried under a pile of other people’s memories instead of my own. After all, even the most beautiful roses, when stacked by the truckload, can feel like an unbearable weight," Zelda continued, her words brimming with raw emotion. "Tomorrow, it’s simply too much.”

Encouraging Others to Seek Help

In a series of follow-up posts, Zelda, known for her role in Girl in the Box, shared various crisis hotlines available in different countries. She urged those who might be struggling to "use any of the following resources" if they find themselves in crisis and are seeking comfort by connecting with her father’s legacy somehow.

“To anyone out there who needs to hear it, let this be your signpost in the desert,” Zelda concluded with heartfelt sincerity. “Reach out, seek help, keep fighting. You’re not alone.”

Remembering Robin Williams on His Birthday

Although Zelda chose not to mark her father’s death anniversary this year, she did take a moment to celebrate his most recent birthday on July 21. During this time, Zelda revealed how she honored the former Mrs. Doubtfire star's special day.

“Today would have been Dad’s 69th birthday, so to honor him (and that glorious number), I will be donating $69.69 to as many local homeless shelters as I can,” Zelda tweeted. “If you'd like to join me, that would be great, but regardless, I’m wishing you all at least one hearty, immature belly laugh in Dad’s honor today.”

Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Williams family during this challenging time.
