Even though Cassidy Gifford, the daughter of Kathie Lee Gifford, had to pivot her wedding plans countless times due to the pandemic, the 27-year-old says she wouldn’t change a single thing. The intimate ceremony turned out to be everything she hoped for and more. Cassidy shared her heartwarming experience during a surprise appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, where she joined her mom and the show's host, Drew Barrymore, for a candid conversation.
Love in the Time of Coronavirus
When Cassidy Gifford tied the knot with her husband, Ben Wierda, she admitted that the process was far from traditional. The couple had to rethink every aspect of their big day to comply with social distancing guidelines. But Cassidy insists that the experience was nothing short of magical. “Truly, it might sound cheesy, but I wouldn’t trade a single moment,” Cassidy said with a smile. “Our wedding was exactly what it needed to be about—love, commitment, and family. We’re absolutely thrilled with how everything turned out.”
A Surprise Appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show
During her appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Cassidy opened up about the challenges of planning a wedding during a global health crisis. Despite the hurdles, Cassidy and Ben embraced the simplicity of their special day. “It was just us and a small group of people who mean the world to us,” Cassidy recalled. “We were surrounded by love and support, and that’s all that matters in the end.” The heartfelt moment was made even more special by the presence of Cassidy’s mom, Kathie Lee, who beamed with pride as she watched her daughter share her story.

Cassidy wasn’t the only one in the Gifford family to exchange vows during these unprecedented times. Her older brother, Cody Gifford, also walked down the aisle with his now-wife, Erika Brown, in early September. Cody’s wedding came three months after Cassidy’s own nuptials, which took place in June. Both ceremonies were smaller than originally planned but were filled with love and joy.
Small Ceremonies, Big Love
Kathie Lee Gifford shared that both of her children, whom she shares with her late husband, Frank Gifford, had originally planned grand weddings. However, the pandemic forced them to make adjustments. Cassidy’s wedding took place at her fiancé’s childhood home—a 150-acre farm in Michigan—and included just 18 guests. Cody’s wedding, held in the family’s backyard over Labor Day weekend, featured 19 attendees. Despite the small guest lists, Kathie Lee said the ceremonies were unforgettable. “They were truly extraordinary,” she remarked. “It was such a blessing because it reminded everyone what a wedding is really about. It’s not about the number of guests or the cost of the dress; it’s about love and commitment.”
Kathie Lee’s Reflections on Her Children’s Weddings
The proud mom couldn’t help but gush about her children’s special days. She explained how the intimate settings allowed the focus to remain on what truly matters in a wedding. “It’s one day in your life, but it’s a day that sets the tone for the rest of your life,” Kathie Lee said. “Cassidy and Cody both found incredible partners who bring so much light and love into our family.” Speaking with ET in late September, Kathie Lee praised both Ben and Erika as “beautiful human beings.” She added, “To see your children happy like that—it makes me feel like Frank is smiling down on us every single day.”
