In a recent chat with People, Kurt, now 69, opened up about why they’ve chosen this unconventional path.
“For people like us, the marriage certificate wasn’t going to create anything that we didn’t already have,” Kurt explained, his voice filled with wisdom and humor. “Almost 40 years together, and we’re still rocking it. What else is there to say? We’ve built something real, something authentic, and that’s what matters.”
Love Beyond Labels
Goldie, now 75, echoes Kurt’s sentiments wholeheartedly. “It’s not about the marriage,” she says, her voice radiating confidence and grace. “It’s about the people, the relationship, and the will to stay together. Goldie and Kurt’s story began back in 1983 when they worked together on the film Swing Swift. But their connection wasn’t new—they had first crossed paths way back in 1966 on the set of The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band. Over the years, their bond deepened, and they’ve been inseparable ever since. Together, they’ve blended their families beautifully, raising their son, Wyatt Russell, 34, while also being amazing parents to Goldie’s children, Oliver Hudson, 44, and Kate Hudson, 41, from her previous marriage to Bill Hudson, and Kurt’s son, Boston Russell, 40, from his marriage to Season Hubley.
Marriage: Not Always the Answer
While Goldie and Kurt have chosen not to walk down the aisle, they fully support marriage for others. Goldie points out that marriage doesn’t always work for everyone. “Our kids have all taken the plunge,” she shares with a chuckle. “Oliver and Wyatt are happily married, but Katie’s experience was different. She’s with this incredible guy, Danny Fujikawa, and I don’t know if she’ll ever remarry. The point is, we’ve all tried marriage, and it’s not for everyone.”
