Abigail Hawk Shares Insights on Tom Selleck's True Personality

When you think of Tom Selleck, the commanding presence of Frank Reagan from the hit show "Blue Bloods" often comes to mind. But according to Abigail Hawk, the actor's real-life demeanor is quite different. The Illinois-born actress, who has worked alongside Selleck for years, recently revealed some fascinating details about her co-star. In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, published on December 9, Abigail shared her admiration for Selleck, while also shedding light on his more reserved side.

At 42, Abigail Hawk has become a fan favorite on "Blue Bloods." She noted that Tom Selleck is much quieter and more introspective than his on-screen persona might suggest. "He’s very shy, which may not surprise people, but I think people assume that he commands the space just like Frank Reagan does," Abigail explained. This revelation might come as a shock to fans who have grown accustomed to Selleck's authoritative role as the NYPD commissioner on the show.

Tom Selleck's Quiet Passions

Abigail went on to describe how Selleck prefers to spend his time when he's not in front of the cameras. "When in all actuality, he just wants to be doing what he does with what Frank does with [his dad], Henry [Len Cariou], sitting in an armchair working on a crossword," she elaborated. For Tom, downtime is all about indulging in his passions, whether it's working on his farm, spending time with his dogs, or diving into a script. It’s a side of Selleck that many fans might not be familiar with, offering a glimpse into the man behind the character.

Abigail also revealed how Selleck played a pivotal role in her career. Initially cast for just one episode, she was thrilled to learn that Selleck had advocated for her to join the series full-time. "My audition was for the episode right after the pilot once it got picked up," Abigail recalled during "Blue Bloods: Celebrating a Family Legacy" on November 29. "It was really only meant to be one episode." Thanks to Selleck's support, Abigail has become a staple on the show for 14 seasons, portraying the beloved character Abigail Baker.

    Abigail Baker's Legacy Lives On

Despite saying goodbye to her character, Abigail believes that Detective Abigail Baker's influence will continue to resonate with audiences. "I just always thought it was so neat that she was such a young leader, and I think she will continue to live on and help young women know that they can also be leaders," she told Woman’s Health in an interview published on November 14. Even as reruns keep the character alive, Abigail anticipates receiving messages from fans inspired by her portrayal. "I think the reruns will still be going, you’ll still see it streaming on a random airplane going to Ireland. So I think I will continue having these young girls reach out to me and say, ‘Hey, because of Detective Baker, I also took the exam.’"

As a keepsake from her time on "Blue Bloods," Abigail took something truly memorable from the set. "Also, I got to take the [One Police Plaza Headquarters] office door. It’s in my basement," she admitted. The door, which has witnessed countless scenes and interactions, holds a special place in her heart. "Everybody was, like, 'What do you want from the set?' And I said the door, and they’re like, 'The one PP door?' And I was, like, 'Yeah, that’s what I want … My fingerprints are on that door’ … I have other things, too, but that’s clearly the coolest thing."

In the retrospective "Blue Bloods" special on November 29, Abigail elaborated on why the door meant so much to her. "I’m making it very public and well known what I’m taking with me. It is that door that is directly behind you because I have let so many people in and out of that office," she said. With plans to transport the door in her minivan, Abigail is ready to bring this piece of "Blue Bloods" history home with her.
