Let me tell you something, folks. Last year, Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band had to hit the pause button on their tour dates because of the pandemic. “It was a bit tricky because the first tour got canceled, then the second one too,” Ringo shared with Closer. “But we’ve got such faith that we’re going to rock every single gig this year!”
At 82, Ringo Starr Still Loves the Drum Kit
Now, here’s the thing: Ringo Starr is 82 years old, and guess what? He’s still as pumped as ever to get behind his drum kit. “Playing music has never been hard work for me,” he says with a laugh. “When I’m out on the road, I want to perform. I don’t want to chill in a hotel room and relax for days. No way! I’d rather play every single night, then take a day off so we can get to the next venue.” That’s the spirit, Ringo!
Pandemic Projects: Creating Music from Home
During the pandemic, Ringo didn’t sit around twiddling his thumbs. Oh no, not this guy! The nine-time Grammy winner stayed busy by crafting a five-song EP called Zoom In from his home studio. “It was a total lifesaver,” he says. “But, let’s be honest, we were all wearing masks, and that’s not really the vibe of music, right?” Ringo also contributed his drumming and singing talents remotely to various pandemic projects by other artists. “I never even saw them!” he laughs. “They just sent over the files, and I did my thing.”

Hitting the Road Again and Exploring Country Music
Getting back on the road isn’t the only thing Ringo is excited about. He’s also planning to record a mini-album of country music. “I came across one of the most stunning country songs I’ve ever heard,” he reveals. “It’s super old-school country, and it’s just beautiful. So, I thought, ‘Hey, why not make a country EP?’ But you’ll have to wait until next year for that!”
Ringo gives all the credit to his fans for keeping him energized and inspired. “I adore the audience, and they absolutely adore me,” he says with a grin. “They’re a big part of why I keep going out there. They give so much back, and it’s incredible.” Ringo calls himself a lucky man, having played with some of the greatest bands in history, including, of course, The Beatles. “I’ve played with my three brothers in the greatest band in my world,” he says. “I just love playing live. Life is good, folks. Really, really good.”
