Here’s the thing: this condition isn’t new to Alan’s family. His late father, paternal grandfather, and older sister also battled the same degenerative nerve disorder. It’s not deadly,” he reassured fans. “But it’s related to muscular dystrophy and Parkinson’s disease.”
For Alan, coming forward with his diagnosis has been a relief. “In some ways, it’s a relief because I was starting to get so self-conscious up there, about stumbling around,” he shared. “It made me nervous, trying to keep my balance. I looked pitiful. So I think it’s good for me now to get it out in the open. If anyone’s curious why I don’t walk right, that’s why.”

“Yes. I would hope so,” Alan responded when asked if he plans to release more music. “I mean, I may not have toured much, but like I said, the creative part jumps out every now and then.”
As a member of the Grand Ole Opry, Alan is always jotting down ideas and thinking about new melodies. He even teased fans with the promise of “some more music to come.” And just to prove he’s still got it, Alan took the stage at the CMA Awards in November 2023 to pay tribute to the late Jimmy Buffett, performing “Margaritaville” with the Zac Brown Band. “RIP, my friend,” Alan wrote on Instagram following Buffett’s passing from a rare form of skin cancer in September 2023.
