Embracing Parenthood: A New Chapter
Anderson Cooper isn’t just a world-renowned journalist anymore. The beloved CNN anchor is now stepping into the role of a dad, and it’s a transformation that’s left him feeling more fulfilled than ever. Anderson recently opened up about his life since the arrival of his son, Wyatt Morgan, who was born on April 27 via surrogacy alongside his former partner, Benjamin Maisani. It’s been a journey filled with love, growth, and a newfound sense of purpose.
The Magic of Parenthood
In an emotional interview with People magazine for their June Pride issue, Anderson, now 53, described how becoming a father has completely transformed his life. "It feels like my life has actually begun," he said, his voice filled with awe. "I sort of wonder, what was I waiting for? This is a new level of love." He went on to explain that the bond he shares with Wyatt is unlike anything he’s ever experienced, yet it feels so familiar and deeply intimate. "It’s really extraordinary," he added, his words reflecting the sheer joy and wonder of parenthood.

A Dream Come True
For Anderson, the path to fatherhood wasn’t always clear. He recalled feeling a deep sense of longing as a young boy, realizing early on that being gay might mean he wouldn’t have the chance to be a dad. "When I was 12 years old and knew I was gay and thought about my life, it always upset me," he admitted. "Because I thought, 'I will never be able to have a kid.'" But Anderson’s journey proved him wrong, and now he’s embracing parenthood with open arms, feeling incredibly fortunate to be raising Wyatt as a proud gay man.

Emotions Running High
Anderson’s life has become a whirlwind of emotions since Wyatt’s arrival. "I cry at things I never cried at before," he confessed, adding that Wyatt has the same effect on Benjamin, his co-parent. "And Benjamin... I’ve never seen him cry, but I couldn’t believe how weepy he gets with Wyatt. I find myself being overwhelmed with emotion, and it’s a lovely thing." It’s a testament to the profound impact that parenthood can have, even on those who thought they were prepared for it.
Thinking About the Future
As a father, Anderson is now more acutely aware of the world his son is growing up in. Amid the global pandemic and the ongoing fight for racial justice, he’s determined to create a better future for Wyatt. "There’s something about having a child that makes you feel connected to what is happening, and you want to make sure that the world this child is growing up in is a better one," he explained. "You suddenly worry much more about the future of all of us." It’s a responsibility he takes seriously, and one that fuels his passion for making a difference.
