Life’s got its challenges, and for Kelly Clarkson, one of the biggest has been navigating her son Remy's hearing and speech issues. In a heartfelt interview with People, Kelly, now 38, opened up about her 4-year-old son’s journey. “When Remy was a baby, we had no idea he had this ear problem,” Kelly shared. “Turns out, his ears were completely clogged with wax—it was so bad that it felt like he was hearing everything underwater. We thought for a moment that he might be deaf because his speech sounded muffled, like he was trying to talk through water.”

Uncovering the Problem and Finding Solutions

As any parent would, Kelly sprang into action to help her son. She and her husband, Brandon Blackstock, sought medical advice and eventually discovered the issue was simpler than they initially feared. However, the delay in diagnosis had set Remy back developmentally. “It pushed him back by almost nine months,” Kelly explained. “We’ve been working tirelessly with him on his speech, even continuing his therapy sessions via Zoom during these challenging times.”

Kelly went on to say that the most important milestone for her family is watching Remy discover his true personality and identity. “It’s been tough for him because he couldn’t express himself fully. But now, seeing him start to form full sentences and engage with us more meaningfully—it’s such a blessing. Watching him come into his own is one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had as a mom.”

Kelly and Brandon, 42, are also raising their 5-year-old daughter, River Rose. Despite the challenges, Kelly remains determined to ensure Remy feels fully supported and heard. “Being able to communicate with him is so important,” she emphasized. “When he first started forming full sentences and really engaging with us, it was like a weight lifted off our shoulders. It’s a blessing to see him thriving and expressing himself.”

While the world has faced its own set of challenges during the pandemic, Kelly and her family have used the time to bond even more deeply. Quarantined in their Montana home, the family has embraced quality time together, enjoying activities like board games and Heads Up with Brandon’s older children, Savannah and Seth, from a previous relationship. “It’s all about being present with each other,” an insider shared. “They’re focused on building connections rather than stressing about work. That closeness has made them stronger as a family.”
