Joan Lunden, the beloved former host of Good Morning America, has shared a heartwarming tale of love and partnership with her husband, Jeff Konigsberg. Over two decades later, their bond remains as strong as ever. Joan has opened up about how they met and the journey they’ve shared together, proving that true love can come at any stage in life.
Joan Lunden's Chance Encounter with Jeff Konigsberg
Before meeting Jeff, Joan was married to her first husband, Michael A. Krauss, from 1978 until their divorce in 1992. Together, they had three beautiful children: Jamie, Lindsay, and Sarah. After her first marriage ended, Joan found herself navigating the dating world again. But it wasn’t always easy. In an interview with Motherhood Later, she revealed some hilarious insights into her early post-divorce dating experiences.
“I started getting set up on dates by all these high-powered girlfriends of mine,” Joan recounted. “They introduced me to incredibly successful businessmen, but let’s just say they were about as exciting as watching paint dry. I realized I didn’t want someone whose mind was always on the next big deal. I wanted someone who would be fully present in my life, embrace my kids, and make every day an adventure. I wanted to wake up next to someone and think, ‘Wow, I’m so lucky to be with him.’”

Then, one fateful day, Joan’s life took an unexpected turn during what seemed like an ordinary lunch at a deli. That’s where she crossed paths with Jeff Konigsberg. As Joan tells it, Jeff approached her table with a charming introduction that left her intrigued.
“He said, ‘Hi, obviously I know who you are, but you probably don’t know me. I was actually invited to dinner at your house in the Hamptons last summer, but I couldn’t make it because I run children’s camps in Maine. I’m there all summer, but maybe we could have dinner sometime?’” Joan remembered. It was a simple moment, but it sparked something special between them.

Joan and Jeff's Journey to Marriage
That chance meeting at the deli blossomed into a deep connection. Joan and Jeff quickly realized they were on the same page about what they wanted in life. By 2000, they tied the knot, marking the beginning of a beautiful partnership that has lasted over two decades.
“I married a guy who owns summer camps,” Joan proudly shared in a November 2020 interview with Closer. “We spend our summers in Maine, surrounded by tennis courts, a climbing wall, and hiking trails. My husband also surprised me with the ultimate birthday gift—a fitness mirror called The Mirror. It’s incredible because there’s a trainer right in front of me, guiding me through workouts. It’s been a game-changer!”
Building a Family Together
In addition to her three children from her first marriage, Joan and Jeff welcomed two sets of twins: Kate and Max, followed by Kimberly and Jack. Now, as a mother of seven, Joan has mastered the art of balancing parenthood with self-care.
“Raising this blended family is incredibly energizing for me,” she told Closer. “I’ve always been someone who dives headfirst into life, and I believe I made a wise choice in Jeff. He’s been an incredible partner and father to all our kids.”
