Donny Opens Up About Why He Created the Song

In the clip, Donny sits down in his home recording studio, looking as genuine as ever. “Hello, everyone,” he begins warmly. “I’m sitting here in my studio, and I just started thinking about how isolated we all are right now. It’s not by choice, of course — this coronavirus thing is affecting everyone, everywhere. But I asked myself, ‘Is there something small I can do to help lighten the load for a few people?’”

He pauses for a moment, letting the gravity of the situation sink in. Then, with a twinkle in his eye, he adds, “And I thought, well, music, right? Music speaks a universal language. It’s been my life since I was five years old, so maybe I could sing something. Maybe it would help someone feel a little less alone.”

How the Song Came to Be

Donny goes on to explain the backstory behind “Start Again.” “You know, I actually wrote this song on the bus,” he reveals. “It was originally meant for my next album, but I haven’t decided yet if it’s going to make the final cut. Either way, the lyrics seem so fitting for where we are right now.”

He leans forward slightly, his tone becoming more reflective. “Think about it — we’re all slowing down, aren’t we? Life’s been moving so fast for so long, and now we’re forced to hit pause. Maybe it’s a chance to reset, to appreciate each other a little more, and to start fresh. That’s what this song is all about.”

The Power of Music in Tough Times

With that, Donny sits at the piano and begins to play. His voice fills the room, rich and steady, carrying words that resonate deeply. “Just keep believing / And keep on fighting / Don’t give up or give in, carry on,” he sings passionately. “Because it’s never, never, never / Too late to start again.”
