You know how sometimes life throws you a curveball, and you end up surprising even yourself? Well, Susan Lucci, the queen of daytime TV, definitely fits that bill. Her iconic character, Erica Kane from All My Children, was legally married eight times, and recently, Susan spilled the tea on which husband she thought was the best match for the fiery diva of Pine Valley.
Susan Lucci Shares Her Thoughts on Erica's Perfect Match
At 78 years old, Susan still has that spark and charm that made her a household name. During a fan Q&A hosted by the one and only Andy Cohen on January 14, Susan revealed her thoughts on Erica's perfect husband. This event, held in New York City, celebrated the 55th anniversary of All My Children, a show that truly changed the landscape of daytime television. According to Susan, Erica finally found her happily-ever-after with husband number eight – none other than Walt Willey’s Jackson “Jack” Montgomery.
Susan explained, "Jack Montgomery was the one who wouldn’t leave and couldn’t get out of her life, and she couldn’t walk away from him." She continued, "Even at the end, she was in the crosshairs of that rifle going after Jack because she had left him again. Yeah, I guess Jack." Now, that’s a love story for the ages, right? A couple who couldn’t stay away from each other, no matter how hard they tried.

The Cliffhanger That Left Fans Hooked
The final episode of All My Children aired on September 23, 2011, and it ended with a cliffhanger that left fans on the edge of their seats. As Erica prepared to leave Pine Valley for Hollywood, she chased after Jack while J.R. fired a gun towards them. The screen faded to black, leaving fans to wonder if Erica had been shot and killed. Talk about leaving a lasting impression!

Erica and Jack tied the knot in a May 2005 episode of All My Children. Although they divorced in 2007, their connection remained strong, and they continued to carry a torch for each other. It's the kind of love that keeps you coming back for more, even when the odds are stacked against you.
A Look Back at Erica's Marital Journey
Susan’s character donned a wedding gown for 11 marriages on the show but only ended up married to eight husbands. Erica's first marriage was to Jeff Martin in 1971, but it ended in divorce three years later. Her 1976 marriage to Phil Brent also ended in divorce the same year. Erica tried her hand at marriage again in 1981 to Tom Cudahy, but that marriage was later annulled.
Erica's most prominent marriage was to Adam Chandler in 1984. After a split in 1986, she married Mike Roy, but that marriage was deemed invalid. Erica married Travis Montgomery twice — in 1988 and 1993 — but both marriages were also invalid. Erica went on to renew her vows with Adam in 1993, but ultimately called it quits. She married and divorced Dimitri Marick twice between 1994 and 1990, and Jack became Erica’s final husband in 2005. Now, that’s quite the journey, isn’t it?
Susan also recalled how her TV mom, Frances Heflin’s character Mona, had a favorite of her own. Husband No. 3 Tom — played by Richard Shoberg — was her mama’s best-loved. "She really was rooting for him," Susan said of her TV mother.

The daytime queen made her debut on All My Children in January 1970 at the age of 22, originating the character of Erica. Susan spent 41 years on the show before the long-running ABC soap opera came to an end. "Erica Kane was a spectacular role for any actress to play, and I felt so lucky to be the one who got to do it," Susan wrote in her 2011 memoir, All My Life. "To find the part of a 15-year-old girl that was that juicy and had that much potential, I really thought Erica Kane had the possibility to be a modern-day Scarlett O’Hara."

She added, "I got to do the romance and I got to do the ladies room brawls and the knock-down drag-outs and all of that, so I got to play a lot of range within that part." And let’s be honest, isn’t that what makes a character truly unforgettable?
