Hey there, Yellowjackets fans! If you're like me, you're probably counting down the days until season 3. But as we gear up for more twists and turns, we've got to say goodbye to one unforgettable character: adult Natalie. And trust me, that's not going to be easy.
Season 2 Shockwaves: Natalie's Departure
Let’s rewind for a moment. In the heart-stopping season 2 finale, adult Natalie Scatorccio, brought to life by the incredible Juliette Lewis, met her tragic end. Misty Quigley, played with fiery intensity by Christina Ricci, accidentally delivered a fatal phenobarbital injection. It was a moment that left fans reeling. Now, as Entertainment Weekly's latest photos reveal, it looks like the other adult survivors are preparing to say their final goodbyes to Natalie at what appears to be her funeral in season 3.
Funeral Photos: A Glimpse Into What’s Coming
In these sneak peek photos, we see adult Van Palmer, played by Lauren Ambrose, adult Taissa Turner, portrayed by Tawny Cypress, adult Shauna Sadecki, brought to life by Melanie Lynskey, and Jeff Sadecki, played by Warren Cole, dressed in somber black attire. They’re seated together in what looks like a church, united in their grief. Interestingly, Misty isn’t in the photo, but don’t worry—show creators have already teased what’s next for her complex character.

Series cocreator Ashley Lyle gave us a little insight into Misty’s state of mind. "Misty is handling it great," she joked, before diving deeper. "Natalie’s death certainly impacts Misty emotionally the most, but I think that the reverberations of it are felt by all of them. It’s a loss that will ripple through every character in ways we haven’t fully seen yet."
Natalie's Journey: A Look Back
Throughout the first two seasons, adult Natalie’s story was nothing short of captivating. She faced her fair share of struggles and wasn’t shy about admitting her flaws. Karyn Kusama, the brilliant director behind much of the show’s magic, shared her thoughts on Natalie’s arc. "What I love about these past two seasons is that we’ve been given all the information about Natalie," she said in a May 2023 interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
Kusama continued, "We’ve been told over and over again that there’s a part of her that flirts with the death instinct in a pretty big way. Whether it’s her own addiction issues or what she’s gone through in the past. We’ve watched this character cheat death, come close to death, be foiled in attempting her own suicide, and now that sense of inevitability is finally answered by this terrible mistake. Just like a messy, human mistake. Which is similar to the finale in season one with Jackie dying almost out of poor judgment. That’s something the show does really well in exploring. And I think that was something always intentional about Natalie’s arc."

Other Losses and New Challenges
But Natalie wasn’t the only one to leave us at the end of last season. Misty’s boyfriend, Walter Tattersall, poisoned Kevyn Tan at the Willow Brook Ranch, adding another layer of tragedy to the story. It was heartbreaking to watch as the threads of hope connected to Natalie seemed to unravel.
Meanwhile, young Natalie, played by Sophie Thatcher, was named the leader of the group—a move that didn’t sit well with everyone. Things are about to get even more intense for the stranded soccer team. Coach Ben, having completely distanced himself from the group, burned down their cabin. Now, the girls will face new challenges as they search for shelter, food, and a sense of normalcy in the wilderness.
Season 3 Sneak Peek: The Girls Adapt
New photos from season 3 give us a glimpse into how the girls are coping. It seems they’ve built makeshift tents using leaves and trees after losing the cabin. But as any Yellowjackets fan knows, you can never predict exactly what’s coming next. Cocreator Bart Nickerson hinted at what’s to come: "I think that people will be surprised by their resourcefulness in the face of their continued survival."
