Here’s the deal: Gisele Bündchen, the global icon of health and wellness, wasn’t always this picture-perfect version of herself. In her 20s, the supermodel admitted to having some seriously bad habits that wreaked havoc on her mental and physical well-being. Anxiety was a constant companion, and she knew something had to change. At 39 years old, Gisele reflected on her past and shared her story with Vogue Australia in March, opening up about her battle with caffeine and cigarettes.
“It got to the point where I couldn’t even breathe—it was unbearable. I thought, ‘I’ve got to make a change,’” Gisele revealed. “It wasn’t easy, though. When I stopped drinking coffee and cut out cigarettes, I had the worst headaches you could imagine. It felt like I’d hit rock bottom, but I knew I needed to take control of my life.”

How Gisele Turned Her Life Around
Once Gisele realized how much her unhealthy habits were affecting her, she decided to take action. “I was starting my day with a mocha frappuccino and smoking four cigarettes before even getting out of bed. I knew I had to change,” she said. “So, I started running. Running allowed me to feel my lungs, which was crucial since I was quitting smoking. Every time I ran for 20 minutes, I felt like I was reclaiming my body. It was empowering.”
Gisele, now a mom to two kids—Benjamin, 10, and Vivian, 7—also turned to meditation and breathing exercises to help manage her anxiety. “Before, I’d get into an elevator and feel like I was going to die. It was terrifying. But by replacing those bad habits with healthier ones, I slowly started to feel better. Meditation and breathing techniques became my lifeline.”

The Lesson Gisele Learned
Gisele’s journey taught her a valuable lesson about habits. “We’re creatures of habit, and you can’t just stop doing something you’ve been doing for years without replacing it with something else,” she explained. “You’ve got to swap out the bad for the good. It’s not about perfection—it’s about progress. Every small step you take toward bettering yourself makes a difference.”
It’s inspiring to hear Gisele talk about her transformation. She’s proof that change is possible, no matter how overwhelming it may seem at first. By focusing on building healthier habits, she managed to turn her life around and become the vibrant, confident woman we all admire today.
