If you’ve been tuning into HGTV, you’re probably familiar with the dynamic duo, Dave and Jenny Marrs. These restoration wizards recently took on a project that was nothing short of a labor of love. In an exclusive interview with Closer, they shared the excitement and challenges of turning an 1870s home into a stunning bed and breakfast. The entire process was captured for their spin-off series, Fixer to Fabulous: Welcome Inn. It’s a show that dives deep into their passion for preserving history while creating something truly modern and inviting.

Why Wait? The Reason Behind the Delay

Now, you might be wondering why they’re waiting until May to open their bed and breakfast to guests. Jenny explained it all: “We wrapped up the project back in January, but we’re holding off on renting it out until the beginning of May. This way, the show can premiere without giving away any spoilers.” It’s a smart move, ensuring that fans of the series can enjoy the full journey before experiencing the final masterpiece themselves.

Restoring a Piece of History

Dave and Jenny aren’t just renovators; they’re history enthusiasts. Their dream of owning an inn became a reality when they stumbled upon this 1870s home. The couple immediately recognized its potential. “This house wasn’t just any old structure—it was a piece of history worth saving,” Dave says. With their expertise in historical restorations, they set out to create The Welcome Inn, a bed and breakfast that reflects not only their tastes but also the home’s original charm.

  • “We always aim to make these homes reflect the families who live in them,” Dave adds. “This house is no different. It’s a true reflection of Jenny and me, and the things we hold dear. It’s like having another child—a little project that we’ve poured our hearts into, making it exactly how we’ve always dreamed.”

Challenges and Triumphs Along the Way

Of course, no project comes without its challenges. Dave and Jenny faced hurdles like figuring out the logistics of a rental website and managing the business side of things. But that’s just part of the journey. As seasoned renovators from their hit series Fixer to Fabulous, they know the importance of highlighting a home’s unique features. “We focused heavily on preserving the character and integrity of the house,” Jenny explains. “We didn’t want to stray too far from its original essence. Instead, we aimed to genuinely restore it, honoring the era in which it was built.”

Design Inspiration: A Blend of Old and New

The Marrs drew inspiration from their own farmhouse in Bentonville, Arkansas, where they live with their five kids: Nathan, Ben, Sylvie, Charlotte, and Luke. Their home is a bustling hub of activity, so they wanted the bed and breakfast to feel spacious and inviting. “We opted for a light color palette with light floors and walls,” Jenny shares. “It makes the space feel larger and brighter. Natural light streams through the windows, which is crucial for maintaining that open, airy vibe.”

Despite the chaos of raising a large family, Jenny emphasizes the importance of keeping things minimal. “Even though we have a lot of kids and a lot of stuff, we wanted the design to feel clean and uncluttered. It’s a balance between functionality and beauty.”
