It’s Back-to-School Time for Craig Melvin’s Kids!
As the new school year kicks off, Craig Melvin’s kids, Delano and Sybil, are ready to hit the books. This proud father of two couldn’t help but share a heartwarming photo of his children all set for their first day of school on Wednesday, August 28. There’s nothing quite like watching your kids grow up, but as any parent knows, it can feel like it happens in the blink of an eye.
Craig, who just turned 45, posted a tender message alongside the picture. “And just like that,” he wrote. “These two make me so happy and proud. I just wish it would all slow down a little, you know? Time flies when you’re raising kids, and before you know it, they’re off to college. But for now, I’m soaking up every minute.” It’s the kind of sentiment that resonates with parents everywhere.
Their First-Day Signs Say It All
In the photo, Delano, who’s now 10 years old, proudly holds a sign that reads, “5th Grade Here I Come!” Meanwhile, his younger sister Sybil, who’s 7, clutches her own sign that says, “Starting 2nd Grade!” These little details add a personal touch to the moment, capturing the excitement and anticipation of a fresh start. It’s not just about academics; it’s about growing into the best versions of themselves.

Craig shares Delano and Sybil with his wife, Lindsay Czarniak, and the whole family clearly treasures these milestones. Lindsay also joined in on the fun by sharing her own set of photos on Instagram. She captured not only her kids but also their adorable dog, Myles, who seems just as thrilled to be part of the celebration. The backdrop? Their stunning home in Connecticut, where family memories are made every single day.
Lindsay’s Tribute to Her Kids
Lindsay, 46, added her own heartfelt caption to the photos. “Let’s do this! I couldn’t be prouder of these two,” she wrote. “But honestly, I wish time would slow down just a little bit. Hoping everyone has a wonderful school year ahead.” She even included some fun outtakes where she tried to get the whole family, including Myles, into one shot. It’s those imperfect moments that often become the most cherished ones.

A Year of Firsts and Challenges
For Delano, last year’s first-day-of-school photos came with a twist. He had to sport a boot on his foot after injuring himself just days before school started. “He hurt himself on Sunday and was limping, so Lindsay took him to the doctor yesterday,” Craig explained during a Today broadcast in August 2023. “And lo and behold, he has to wear a boot for three weeks. Nothing says ‘first day of school’ like walking in with a boot on your ankle!”
But despite the challenges, Craig knows how important it is to celebrate the little victories. This summer, he headed overseas to cover the Paris 2024 Olympics for NBC alongside Hoda Kotb, Al Roker, and Savannah Guthrie. While he was busy broadcasting from France, his kids sent him a heartfelt video message. “Hi Daddy, we miss you. We love you very much,” Delano and Sybil said, bringing tears to their dad’s eyes. Craig wiped away the emotion and replied, “We love being here, obviously, but we miss you guys.”
Family Comes First
Before the new school year officially began, the Melvin family rallied around Sybil as she performed in a stage production of Cinderella on August 17. Lindsay took to Instagram to celebrate the occasion, writing, “So good to have the band back together this week and watch our girl do her thing on stage. #cinderella #momlife #love #family #theater.” It’s these moments that remind us what truly matters—supporting each other through life’s big and small adventures.
And let’s not forget Craig’s recent release of his children’s book, I’m Proud of You. In an interview with People, he reflected on the importance of fatherhood. “There are so many dads out there who pour their hearts into being present for their kids,” he said. “They run shuttles on weekends, coach basketball teams, or volunteer at church groups. It’s a community that doesn’t always get the recognition it deserves, and I think it’s time we change that.”
