For over five decades, Jack Nicholson has been a towering figure in Hollywood, starring in blockbuster films and racking up awards along the way. Amidst his illustrious career, the legendary actor was married once to actress Sandra Knight. The couple tied the knot in 1962, but their union came to an end in 1968. Despite the brevity of their marriage, the pair shared unforgettable moments and even welcomed a child together.
How It All Began: Sandra Knight's Journey to Stardom
Sandra Knight, born in 1939, was destined for the spotlight from a young age. Growing up, she immersed herself in singing and dancing, knowing full well she wanted to become an actress. Her dreams took flight when she landed a role in the 1958 film Thunder Road. However, it wasn't until 1963's The Terror that she crossed paths with Jack Nicholson on-screen. Interestingly, their connection ran deeper than just a professional relationship.
In a candid June 2010 interview with Alan Mercer, Sandra reminisced about her first encounter with Jack. "I met Jack when I was 14, thanks to my father who worked at MGM. I spent a summer working as a messenger girl, and he was a messenger boy," she recalled. "He and his friends were a bit older, but they were always laughing and having fun, so I thought they were really cool. A few years later, at Martin Landau's acting class, we rehearsed a scene from Tennessee Williams' play Summer and Smoke, and that's when the spark ignited."

A Beautiful Marriage and Its Legacy
A year after exchanging vows, Sandra and Jack welcomed their daughter, Jennifer Nicholson. Following in her parents' footsteps, Jennifer pursued acting, landing roles in films like Hoff and Inevitable Grace. Eventually, she transitioned into her passion for clothing design. When Sandra and Jack's relationship ended, the actress relocated to Hawaii with her daughter. Despite the marriage's dissolution, Sandra fondly remembers their time together.
In a June 2016 exclusive interview with Closer, Sandra expressed, "The real Jack is a loving, caring, giving person. We had a very beautiful, sweet marriage." Her words reveal a deep appreciation for the time they shared, even after their paths diverged.
Life After Hollywood: Sandra's New Chapter
After her high-profile marriage, Sandra stepped away from acting to focus on motherhood. She enrolled in the Otis Art Institute, nurturing her love for painting. Later, the State Trooper actress took classes to become a life coach, leading her to meet her second husband, John Stephenson.
"We met at a spiritual seminar," Sandra shared. "John is a writer, artist, and teacher of spiritual principles, conducting seminars worldwide. Together, we've traveled extensively to places like Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and England." Their shared passions and values paved the way for a fulfilling partnership.
In the '80s, Sandra and John founded Synergy Production, a production company that allowed them to channel their creativity. Sandra also served on the Board of Directors of the Hawaii International Film Festival and penned several screenplays. In 1996, she became a grandmother when Jennifer gave birth to her first son, Sean, with her ex-husband, Mark Norfleet. Their second son, Duke, followed in 1999 and has since embraced an acting career, continuing the family's legacy in the entertainment world.
