Hey, you guys. If you're a fan of CBS, you might have noticed some big changes to their lineup. There's been a major shakeup, and a lot of people are wondering if one of their favorite shows, S.W.A.T., is still around. So, let's dive into what's happening.
Breaking News: S.W.A.T. Gets the Axe
Unfortunately, the news isn't great. CBS has officially decided to cancel S.W.A.T. in March 2025, after an impressive eight seasons. This decision has left fans reeling and wondering what's next for the beloved show.
Andrew Dettmann, the showrunner and executive producer of S.W.A.T., had some heartfelt words to share about the cancellation. “This is truly heartbreaking. Working on this show with such an incredible cast and crew has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. They’ve poured their hearts into this for eight seasons, overcoming so many challenges. I can’t say enough about how amazing they are,” he said in a statement.

Star Shemar Moore also took to Instagram to express his feelings about the cancellation. “I wasn’t planning on saying anything, but I can’t help it. S.W.A.T. here we are, season 8, just three weeks away from the finale, and we’re canceled again. It’s tough, man. It’s really tough,” he told his followers.
But Moore isn’t giving up just yet. He’s determined to find a new home for S.W.A.T. “Netflix, if you’re out there, this show is a gem. The world is watching. We’d love to keep going. NBC, FOX, ABC—hey, if you want to join us, you’re more than welcome. Let’s make something happen. I’ll even pick up the tab for dinner,” he joked.
Fans were devastated by the news. One fan commented on Moore’s video, saying, “I’m so heartbroken! They can’t cancel y’all again!” Another fan chimed in with, “So sorry to hear this. You’ve given us eight incredible seasons. Whatever you do next, it’s going to be great because you’re committed to your craft. Sometimes you just have to leap and trust that the net will appear.”
The Rollercoaster Journey of S.W.A.T.
Over the years, S.W.A.T. has had quite the journey on CBS. It’s been a wild ride full of ups and downs, and the fans have been right there with the show every step of the way.
S.W.A.T. has been through a lot during its time on CBS. It was previously canceled and then miraculously brought back not once, but twice, thanks to the incredible support from fans and the dedication of the show’s stars.
Back in the season 6 finale, CBS announced the cancellation, but Shemar Moore wasn’t about to let it go without a fight. He posted a seven-minute video on Instagram, expressing his frustration with the network. “I’m really sad. S.W.A.T. got canceled, and it doesn’t make any sense. We’ve been killing it on Friday nights at 8 o’clock for CBS. We’ve done everything they’ve asked of us. I hope we can come together and continue this show because it’s a great time for families around the world,” he said in the video.

He went on to talk about how much he cares about the entire team. “If it is the end, life will go on. I’m not worried about me. I care deeply about my family, the crew, the writers, the producers, the caterers, the wardrobe, the sound mixers, the teamsters, the construction crew. It’s all about them,” he added.
And guess what? The cancellation was overturned, and S.W.A.T. came back for season 7 in February 2024. At first, it was marketed as the final season, but that decision was reversed. “This is how dedicated the crew is, especially the writers,” Moore told TV Insider in April 2024. “We’ve written the show in a way that it can either be a farewell or a new beginning. When you watch the finale, you’ll see what I mean. It’s like saying goodbye, but also saying we can keep going.”

Thanks to all the fan support, S.W.A.T. returned to CBS in October 2024 for season 8. “Here at CBS, we always love a good twist, and we’re thrilled to bring back S.W.A.T. for an eighth season!” said Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment. “The show continues to resonate with viewers thanks to our talented cast, led by Shemar Moore, and our incredible writers and producers who keep the show action-packed and relevant. We’re very pleased to renew it again and incredibly grateful to our partners at Sony, CBS Studios, and Shemar for working closely with us to bring it back.”
Katherine Pope, President of Sony Pictures Television Studios, added, “S.W.A.T. has captured the hearts of viewers since its debut in 2017. Every renewal shows just how passionate and dedicated the fans are. Thank you to Amy Reisenbach and our partners at CBS for continuing to believe in the show and the hard work of the cast and crew. Everyone at Sony Pictures Television is proud of what Shawn, Aaron, Andy, and the entire S.W.A.T. team have created. Roll SWAT!”
Changes to the CBS Lineup
In November 2024, CBS revealed its TV schedule for early 2025. It was announced that S.W.A.T. would take over the spot previously held by Blue Bloods in the Friday night lineup at 10 p.m., starting in January 2025 for the rest of the season. After 14 seasons, Blue Bloods was canceled, much to the disappointment of its cast and crew.
Months later, the network also announced that FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International were both canceled.
