In Season 4 of Fixer Upper, Vietnam War veteran Bill Graham and his wife, Sherry, were gifted an unforgettable home makeover by none other than Chip and Joanna Gaines. NFL superstar Robert Griffin III lent a helping hand, bringing his Family of 3 charity into the mix to honor Bill’s nearly four decades of dedicated military service. Scroll down to uncover what happened to the Grahams after the cameras stopped rolling.

Why Bill and Sherry Graham Were Chosen for 'Fixer Upper'

NFL star Robert Griffin III was on a mission to give back to a local war hero. When he heard Bill Graham's story, he knew this was the family he wanted to help. Growing up with both parents in the Army and traveling the world before settling in Texas, Robert felt a deep connection to Bill's journey. His Family of 3 foundation has always been about giving back to those who’ve sacrificed so much for our country, and Bill and Sherry were the perfect recipients of this transformative gift.

Bill, a proud recipient of the Army Achievement Medal, and his wife, Sherry, had been married for an incredible 45 years at the time of the episode. They lived in Waco, Texas, the very city where Chip and Joanna Gaines built their empire of home improvement. The timing couldn’t have been better for this heartwarming collaboration.

The HGTV dream team and Robert Griffin III worked tirelessly to create a space that would not only honor the Grahams' legacy but also make life easier for Sherry, who battled lung cancer in the past and was declared cancer-free. But just as the renovation began, Sherry received some devastating news.

"They did the last test, and it was in her back and her liver," Bill recalled during a January 2017 interview with KWTX. "The doctor was upfront. He gave her six months, and she lasted two." Despite the heartbreaking diagnosis, Sherry was able to see the completed home before she passed away at the age of 69 on October 31, 2016.

The reveal day was nothing short of emotional. Sherry, who was staying in a rehab facility during her battle with cancer, left for an hour to see the finished masterpiece. As Chip and Joanna walked her through each room, tears streamed down her face. "It meant everything to her," Bill reflected. "She was so appreciative of everything. Her words were, 'I can’t believe they picked us.'"

    Bill and Sherry Graham’s Legacy

Bill and Sherry Graham shared a beautiful life together, welcoming two children, son Billy Graham and daughter Sheila Graham. They also became proud grandparents to Cody and Caitlynn Graham, Jaiden and Aliviah Graham, and great-grandparents to their great-granddaughter, Emmy Graham.

Billy spoke fondly of the impact the renovation had on his mother’s final days. "For the short time mom was here, you wouldn’t believe the difference it made," he shared. "She was on a walker, so the hallways and doors were wider, making it so much easier for her. It meant the world to all of us that someone finally recognized how deserving she was."

The home makeover wasn’t just about bricks and mortar; it was a celebration of a life well-lived and a family's enduring love. Bill and Sherry’s story continues to inspire, reminding us of the power of kindness and the importance of honoring those who have served.
