George Clooney Brings His Family to NYC for Broadway Debut

When George Clooney and his wife, Amal Clooney, decided to relocate to New York City with their kids, it wasn’t just a temporary move—it was an adventure. The Academy Award-winning actor recently opened up about how his family is adjusting to life in the Big Apple as he prepares for his Broadway debut in Good Night, and Good Luck. With the show’s opening night set for March 12, George, Amal, and their 7-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander, are soaking up everything the city has to offer during their six-month stay.

George Clooney on Broadway: A New Chapter

At 63, George Clooney appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert earlier this week to discuss his upcoming Broadway role in Good Night, and Good Luck. Adapted from the 2005 film he starred in, the play promises to be a powerful exploration of midcentury American television news. As the family gears up for their time in New York, they’ve already begun exploring the vibrant city that will be their home for the next half-year.

Amal and the Kids Love NYC

“They absolutely adore New York! Amal went to NYU, so she’s familiar with the city,” George shared with a smile. Clearly, the family is embracing the opportunity to immerse themselves in the city’s culture. While Amal has fond memories of her time at NYU, their kids, Ella and Alexander, may not be following directly in her academic footsteps. “They’re smart kids, but not quite ready for NYU yet,” George joked, lightening the mood.

George expressed how much he and his family are enjoying their time in NYC. “How could you not love it? It’s New York City!” he exclaimed during his appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Beyond the excitement of the city itself, George highlighted the unique schedule that comes with performing in a play. “Actually, a play works out pretty well because you work at night, which means you get to spend the day with the kids. It’s a great balance,” he explained.

    Why George Clooney Chose Broadway

Before making the move to NYC, George spoke candidly about what led him to take on this new challenge. “This is going to consume six months of my life in New York, but I’m okay with that,” he told GQ in August 2024. “It’s all about balancing time. I won’t take on anything else during this period. My priority is spending quality time with my kids. I genuinely enjoy driving them to school, and my wife and I are having an incredible time together.”

“This is a chance to try something completely new. I’ve never performed on Broadway before,” George added. “We’re always looking for fresh opportunities while also remembering the importance of enjoying life in a meaningful way. It’s about finding a balance—a little bit of everything, including moderation.”

    Global Adventures and Broadway Dreams

George and Amal own properties around the globe, including their famous estate in Laglio, on Lake Como, in Italy. This lakeside home has become a beloved retreat for the Clooney family and their celebrity friends. However, for the next few months, NYC will be their focus as George performs in Good Night, and Good Luck until June 8.

“Step back to the 1950s and experience Good Night, and Good Luck on Broadway. This gripping play delves into the world of midcentury American television news, following broadcast journalist Edward R. Murrow (played by Clooney) and Senator Joseph McCarthy during the Red Scare era,” the play’s synopsis reads.

In a statement after the show was announced, George expressed his excitement. “I am truly honored to return to the stage and especially to Broadway, the pinnacle of every actor’s aspirations,” he said.
