When the final curtain falls on the beloved series Blue Bloods later this year, Tom Selleck admits there's one thing he'll miss the most: the incredible bond with his castmates and crew. “The dinner party scenes we film feel more like reunions among friends,” Tom shares, his voice filled with genuine warmth. “This show has truly been a blessing. Working alongside a group that’s become like family makes it hard for directors to keep us focused sometimes. We’re all about getting the job done right, but we also love to joke around, catch up, and have fun while we’re at it.”
With nearly six decades of experience in the entertainment industry, Tom Selleck knows just how rare and special Blue Bloods has been. At 78 years old, he acknowledges that this kind of opportunity doesn’t come around often. “I never imagined I’d be fortunate enough to work on a show with such longevity,” he confesses. “It’s been an honor and privilege to be part of something that not only celebrates the men and women who protect and serve in New York City but also highlights the importance of family.”
This time around, unlike the end of his iconic series Magnum, P.I., which aired from 1980 to 1988, Tom wasn’t the one calling the shots. “CBS made the final decision — budget cuts played a role — but honestly, I think the timing is right,” reveals an insider close to the situation, speaking exclusively to Closer.

When the final episode airs next fall, Tom will have more time to enjoy life away from the spotlight. His 65-acre ranch near Ventura, California, once owned by the legendary Dean Martin, is where he plans to unwind. Here, he grows avocados and cherishes moments with his loved ones. “He’s eager to relax on his ranch, stroll through his land, and spend quality time with his wife and family. Traveling a bit is also on his list,” shares the insider.
Life with Jillie: A Perfect Partnership
At the heart of Tom’s life is his wife, Jillie Mack, 66. She’s the vibrant center of their world. “Jillie brings a joie de vivre, a bubbly energy that brightens any room,” Tom says with admiration. “While I tend to be more introspective, she keeps things lively and fun.” The couple enjoys simple pleasures at home, like cooking together, taking long walks, and finding joy in each other’s company. “Tom and Jillie are perfectly content just being together,” notes the insider.
Planning social events, organizing travel, or even booking a date night to watch Tom’s favorite LA Kings hockey games at Staples Center? That’s Jillie’s department. “Tom trusts Jillie completely when it comes to scheduling activities or travel plans,” the insider explains. “He’s excited to have more free time to spend with her, doing what they both love.”
Their daughter, Hannah, 35, an accomplished equestrian, is another source of pride and joy for the couple. “Tom is incredibly close to Hannah and takes great pride in her competitive horse jumping career,” the insider reveals. “He hopes Hannah finds love and starts a family of her own, but he’s not the type to pressure her into anything. He’d make a fantastic grandfather, though.”
Tom’s Journey Through Life and Stories
Tom’s first book, an intimate memoir titled You Never Know, is set to release on May 7. If you’re expecting a scandalous Hollywood tell-all, you might be surprised. “This isn’t about gossip or drama. It’s about sharing my experiences in this industry, meeting incredible stars, and reflecting on what I’ve learned along the way,” Tom explains. His stories include reaching out to Frank Sinatra in 1987, personally inviting him to guest-star on Magnum. “Frank said, ‘I’ll do it for free. Just cover my expenses.’ That was his last acting role, and I’m proud to say he was amazing in the show. It was a huge moment for us.”
Tom isn’t shy about sharing the times his career took unexpected turns, like having to turn down the role of Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark due to his commitment to Magnum, P.I. “I hope the book is funny because I don’t take myself too seriously,” he laughs. “Having a sense of humor is crucial, both in life and in your work.”

Though Tom is ready for a quieter phase, he doesn’t plan to fade away completely. “Tom loves acting, but he’s not desperate for work anymore. He’s not actively searching for roles,” the insider reveals. “If something exciting comes his way, he’ll certainly consider it. For instance, he’d be open to reprising his role as Frank Reagan in a Blue Bloods movie—if the script is great.”
For now, Tom is content to take life at a slower pace. “There’s a danger in trying to do everything,” he reflects. “People often say, ‘I don’t want regrets.’ But honestly? I don’t have any.”
