There’s nothing quite like family time during the holidays, and the Gaines clan knows how to make it special. Chip and Joanna Gaines, along with their five kids—Drake, Ella Rose, Duke, Emmie Kay, and Crew—shared a heartwarming glimpse of their Christmas celebrations on Instagram this year. From beautifully decorated trees to heartfelt captions, the Gaines family continues to inspire us all with their warm and inviting holiday spirit.
Joanna’s Last-Minute Christmas Prep
In her Instagram Stories, Joanna, who’s now 45, gave her followers an inside look at her holiday hustle. Just hours before gathering with her loved ones, she was busy wrapping gifts, ensuring everything was perfect for the big day. Joanna also shared a sneak peek of her family’s stunning holiday decorations in their Waco, Texas, home. The massive Christmas tree in their living room, adorned with twinkling lights and festive ornaments, was a standout piece. The stockings by the fireplace added that extra touch of warmth and tradition to their cozy setting.
Spreading Holiday Cheer
Joanna took a moment to share her holiday wishes with her followers. In a post on her Instagram page, she captioned a photo of her magnificent holiday decor, “Wishing you the Merriest Christmas! May your hearts be light and your spirits bright.” Her words and images captured the joy and magic of the season, reminding us all to cherish the moments with family and friends.

A New Chapter for the Gaines Family
Earlier this year, Chip and Joanna opened up about sending their eldest son, Drake, off to college. It’s a bittersweet moment for any parent, but for Joanna, it hit especially close to home. “It’s this tension of joy and pain, all in one breath,” Joanna told People magazine. She went on to share how she’s had to adjust to life without Drake around. Even something as simple as setting the table has become a reminder of the changes in their family dynamic. “Even now when I’m setting the table, I have to consciously go, ‘Oh, there’s only six here,’” she admitted.

Since Drake left home, Joanna has been exploring new hobbies to keep herself busy. “The last 10 years have been a bit of a whirlwind for us both, and I stayed very even-keeled,” she told The Hollywood Reporter in November. “But my kid leaving for college? That changes things! Maybe it’s coupled with a midlife crisis. I did start to ride horses. My goal is to barrel race by age 50. I’m looking at things very differently now.”
Finding Joy in Every Moment
While it hasn’t been easy to watch her firstborn leave the nest, Joanna is grateful for the time she still has with her four younger kids. “The greatest gift of having a kid go off to college and having a 5-year-old is that perspective,” she shared. “It’s not here forever. We don’t want to waste these moments.” This mindset keeps her grounded and focused on making the most of the time she has with her family.
Embracing Change Together
Chip and Joanna, who have been married since 2003, are no strangers to change. They’ve learned to embrace the big shifts happening in their lives with grace and optimism. “We’ve had so much change in our lives, and the proof is there: Change is hard, but it’s always beautiful,” Joanna reflected. Recently, the couple celebrated the grand opening of their new Hotel 1928 in Waco. The renovation process was documented in the six-episode series Fixer Upper: The Hotel, adding another exciting chapter to their already impressive home improvement empire.
As they look ahead, Chip and Joanna are taking a moment to reflect on their journey. “It’s been 20 years since we started Magnolia, the business, and right now we’re just letting it all sink in before thinking about where we’re going next,” Joanna explained. “But, at the end of the day, we love to build and create things. What we want to scale and what we don’t want to scale, that’s what we’re considering right now.”
