Hey there, friends! Let’s talk about the much-beloved show Thirtysomething. Actress Mel Harris is optimistic that this iconic series could make a triumphant return to our screens, but this time as a reboot. Could you imagine revisiting the lives of these unforgettable characters? Well, hang tight because there’s a lot more to the story.

Mel recently opened up to Closer in an exclusive interview. She shared, “We were all set to roll with the sequel when the pandemic hit. Everything was in place—script polished, adult children cast, the whole nine yards. But then, just between the network read-through and the dinner that night, they decided to hit the pause button. Like so many other projects that year, it fell victim to the chaos of COVID,” Mel revealed with a mix of disappointment and hope.

What Happened to the 'Thirtysomething' Reboot?

Fast forward to 2020, and the pilot for the reboot, titled thirtysomething (else), was pitched to ABC by the original creators, Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick. The concept was brilliant—revisiting the same beloved characters but decades later, exploring how their lives had evolved. But as we all know, life has a way of throwing curveballs, and in this case, it was the global pandemic that disrupted the process.

  • However, Mel shared some exciting news. “Peter [Horton] and Ed & Marshall are actively pitching this reboot outside the Amazon/MGM space. While Amazon owns the rights to the original series, they’ve graciously given their blessing for the team to shop it around elsewhere. The script for thirtysomethingelse is fantastic, and we’d all absolutely love to bring the story back to life!” she enthused.

And the fans are not sitting idly by. There’s a vibrant Twitter campaign gaining momentum to bring the show back. “The pitches are in, and now we need your help! Hit up @hulu, @nbc, @peacock, @netflix, and @AppleTV and let them know you want thirtysomething. Use the hashtag #whereisthirtysomething, and together, we can make this happen!” Mel recently encouraged her followers on Twitter.

    The Cast’s Unbreakable Bond

Even after all these years, the magic of Thirtysomething continues to keep its cast tightly knit. Mel fondly recalls, “The fact that we remain friends and continue to reunite is such a testament to the special connection we all share. When we do get together, it feels like no time has passed at all. It’s like we’re picking up a conversation from last night’s dinner. That’s a rare thing in this industry, and it truly makes our group extraordinary.”

Her co-stars—Ken Olin, Patricia Wettig, Melanie Mayron, Polly Draper, Timothy Busfield, and Peter—are not just colleagues; they’re family. And that bond is evident in everything they do.

    Mel’s Current Projects

In the meantime, Mel is keeping busy with her acting career. She’s currently starring in the film Queen of Knives, which you can stream right now on AppleTV+ and Amazon Prime. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you’re in for a treat!
