It’s the end of an era, folks! Pat Sajak, the iconic host of Wheel of Fortune, has spun the wheel for the very last time. On June 7, the show airs its final episode with Pat at the helm, marking the conclusion of a 40-year career as one of America’s most cherished game show hosts. Reflecting on his journey, Pat said, “The years go by so fast. It’s truly an honor to have been part of so many people’s lives for such a long time.”
At 77, Pat is stepping away from the daily grind but not completely out of the picture. He’ll remain a consultant for the show for the next three years, allowing him to enjoy more downtime. “He’s had an incredible run, but he’s ready to slow down and enjoy life,” shared a close friend of Pat’s. For those who don’t know, Pat was handpicked by Wheel creator Merv Griffin in 1981 to replace the original host, Chuck Woolery, and the rest, as they say, is history.
What made Pat a household name? His humor, of course! Contestants never knew what to expect from him, and that’s what kept audiences hooked. “Pat keeps things light and unpredictable,” said Vanna White, Wheel’s beloved cohost, in an interview with Closer. Pat’s quick wit wasn’t just a natural gift—it was honed during his early days as a weatherman and Sunday talk show host in Los Angeles during the late 1970s. “Back then, I’d find myself interviewing people at trout farms who had nothing to do with fish,” Pat reminisced. “It was great practice. You learn to think on your feet and keep things lively.”

Ryan Seacrest Steps into the Spotlight
As the show moves forward, Ryan Seacrest will take the reins and begin taping new episodes set to air this fall. By then, Pat plans to be fully immersed in his new chapter. “Pat will dedicate his time to family, hobbies, and the causes he cares about,” said the friend. Among his passions? Traveling, playing golf with friends, and supporting organizations like the USO and PETA. It’s clear that while Pat is stepping back, he’s not stepping out—he’s just shifting gears.
Since its debut, Wheel of Fortune has awarded over $250 million in prizes, and more than 10,000 contestants have graced the stage alongside Pat and Vanna. “It’s been an amazing journey,” Pat reflected. “I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who’s been a part of it.”
