Kevin Costner has nothing but faith in his seven kids and their dreams for the future. Known for his role in Yellowstone, Kevin humorously admitted that he moonlights as an “Uber driver” for his three youngest children—Cayden, Hayes, and Grace—shuttling them to their various activities.
In a candid interview with People, published on June 18, Kevin opened up about the joys of parenthood. "They're like shooting stars," he said, reflecting on his children's potential. "My life right now is all about driving up and down the freeway, just trying to get the kids where they think they need to be. But hey, that's part of the job, and I wouldn't have it any other way." It’s clear that Kevin sees being a dad as one of the most rewarding roles of his life.
Trusting His Instincts in Casting His Own Son
Just days before, Kevin, now 69, revealed a touching moment about casting his 15-year-old son Hayes as Nathaniel Kittredge in the first part of his Horizon franchise. "He's a beautiful boy, and he's quiet," Kevin shared during an appearance on Today on June 17. "I've never pushed my kids into the business. There are so many young actors out there who would give anything to be in a movie like this. I don't want to take those opportunities away from them just because I can cast my own children." It’s clear that Kevin values fairness and opportunity in the industry.

Hayes's Debut in the Film Industry
Despite his reservations, Kevin decided to cast Hayes in a smaller role for the Western movie, which also stars Sienna Miller and Sam Worthington. "It wasn't a big part," Kevin explained, "but I selfishly wanted him with me for those two weeks. Every day, we'd drive to the set together, and he'd whisper his lines. He didn't have much acting experience, but he was truly beautiful in the movie." It’s evident that Kevin cherishes these moments with his son, blending work with family time.

Hayes's First Acting Role
This marked Hayes's debut in the acting world, and it was a proud moment for Kevin. "Hayes had never acted before, and I don't just hand out roles to my kids," Kevin told Metro.co.uk on May 23. "There are so many young people out there who dream of acting, and I want to give them a chance. My kids, if they're not passionate about the industry, I won't just hand them a role because I know how important these opportunities are to others." Kevin's approach shows his respect for the craft and the industry.
Kevin shares Cayden, 17, Hayes, 15, and Grace, 14, with his ex-wife Christine Baumgartner. He is also a proud father to Annie, 40, Lily, 37, Joe, 36, and Liam, 26, from previous relationships. "It was a small part, but I wanted Hayes close to me," Kevin explained. "I was away from home, and I needed my family nearby. Casting him was a way for me to keep him close, and he was absolutely stunning in the movie."
Family Comes First
While Kevin has remained committed to his career throughout the years, he reassures fans that his family is always his top priority. "They understand that I have this chosen work, but honestly, I’m crystal clear about where my responsibilities lie at the end of the day," he said, emphasizing that his family is his anchor. Whether it's driving his kids to their activities or casting his son in a movie, Kevin Costner proves that being a dad is one of the most important roles he’ll ever play.
