“I rarely take the time to read every single comment that comes my way after posting something new. But this time was different. I was genuinely excited about the transformation in my Maine living room, so I decided to browse through the feedback. To my surprise, there was a lot of harsh judgment from people who seemed to dislike the changes,” Martha wrote in her Instagram post on Thursday, July 4, as she showcased a photo of the updated living space.
Martha explained that her team had worked efficiently, spending only three hours clearing out the old furniture and bringing in the new pieces. “We were thrilled to see that everything fit perfectly in the room, maintaining the right proportions for the expansive space. It was a quick but effective transition,” she noted.

A Work in Progress
Martha acknowledged that the decor was far from complete. “This wasn’t a professional installation by a decorator. It was a quick and efficient attempt to make some changes. Turning a house into a home, or creating a beautiful, livable space, takes much more than just three hours. There will definitely be more colors, plants, mirrors, new rugs, and other art pieces added. So, stay tuned for what’s coming next!” she added in the caption.

Some fans described the room as “old and stuffy,” while others pointed out the lack of contrast in the design. One commenter joked about the numerous chairs and sofas, saying, “I think you need more seating…,” while another quipped, “Is this a restaurant or a living room?”
More critical comments poured in, with one fan stating, “This looks vast and cold and sterile.” Another remarked, “Yuck. It looks like a Marriott suite living room from the ‘80s.” A disappointed follower even commented, “It doesn’t feel homey or inviting. It looks more like a furniture showroom than a home.
