Let’s talk about a moment that’s making us feel all kinds of nostalgic! Christie Brinkley, the iconic supermodel, decided to close out the summer with a bang by reuniting with none other than Chevy Chase, her co-star from the classic film National Lampoon’s Vacation. It’s been 41 years since the movie premiered, and fans are loving this trip down memory lane. Christie, who’s still as stunning as ever at 70, shared a series of photos with Chevy that had everyone reminiscing about the good old days.

“Vacation is always over too soon! 🏎️@chevychase,” Christie wrote in her Instagram caption on Monday, August 26. The post was like a warm hug for anyone who grew up loving the film and its unforgettable characters.

Reactions Pour In: Fans Can’t Get Enough

It’s no surprise that the internet went wild over this reunion. One commenter wrote, “How wonderful that you can get together! You are such a positive spirit!” Another fan chimed in, saying, “How cute are you two!! Still one of the best movies ever!” It’s clear that the magic between Christie and Chevy hasn’t faded over the years, and fans are thrilled to see them together again.

For those who need a refresher, Christie and Chevy shared a scene in the 1983 film that’s become legendary. In it, Christie pulls up in a sleek Ferrari while Chevy’s character, Clark Griswold, is driving on the freeway. The scene was electric, and it’s one of the reasons the movie remains so beloved. Later in the film, their characters even took a memorable dip in the pool—skinny dipping, to be exact. It’s the kind of moment that sticks with you.

Why Christie Passed on the Sequel

Interestingly, Christie was offered a role in the sequel, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, but she decided not to take it. Why? Her dad had some sage advice for her. “He said, ‘Gee, I would hate to see you get typecast in that kind of ingenue role. You have so much more depth. I don’t think you should do it,’” Christie revealed in a 2018 interview with Us Weekly. She trusted her dad’s judgment and turned down the offer, but looking back, she admitted she might have missed out on some fun.

Years later, Christie admitted that she wished she’d taken the role. “Of course I should’ve [done it] because it’s so much fun to hang around with comedians,” she shared. “I mean, I love nothing more than to make people laugh.” She eventually made a brief appearance in 1997’s Vegas Vacation, reprising her role as the “Girl in the Ferrari.”

    A Heartwarming Reunion

Fast forward to December 2022, and Christie, Chevy, and co-star Beverly D’Angelo reunited again. This time, they posed for a series of photos on Instagram, all dressed in matching Christmas sweaters. Christie captioned the post, “These Three Amigos are going to need a Christmas Vacation after @steelcitycomiccon 😜Were back again today and I’m in the mood for some fun! I just love you two @officialbeverlydangelo and @chevychase.” It’s moments like these that remind us why we fell in love with these characters in the first place.

Behind the Scenes: Working on ‘Vacation’

To mark the 40th anniversary of Vacation in 2023, Dana Barron, who played Audrey Griswold in the original film, shared some behind-the-scenes insights about working with Christie. “Christie was what they called the ‘Weather Girl’ because she came on set and hung out with us, and we didn’t know if she would be filming that day because it depended on the weather,” Dana told Hollywood Life. “Her scene was basically first in the bar restaurant and then eventually in the pool. So she was waiting cause if there was gonna be a rain problem, she could just be with us.”

“[Christie] had a great time just hanging out and shopping all day long,” Dana added. “And I had fun hanging out with her by the pool and eventually I went to her house in Malibu when we went back to California to film. So we all really bonded on this trip.”
