Jenna Bush Hager Reveals Her ‘Extreme’ Biggest Fears That Make Her Feel

Listen up, folks. Jenna Bush Hager, the former first daughter, decided to get real about her quirks, revealing some of her biggest fears. And guess what? They’re probably not what you’d expect. This is the kind of stuff that makes us feel a little closer to her, right? She's not just a polished TV personality; she's got some surprising fears that might make you chuckle—or relate.

On Today With Hoda & Jenna, Jenna Gets Candid

During an episode of Today With Hoda & Jenna on Monday, September 2, Jenna opened up to her cohost, Hoda Kotb, about her phobias. If you’ve ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes of Jenna's life, this is the kind of moment where we get a little peek into her world. Hoda, the ever-supportive cohost, was there to keep things light but also to dig deeper into Jenna's unexpected fears.

Globophobia: The Fear You Didn’t Know Existed

Now, here’s where things get interesting. Jenna, who’s 42 years old and has seen her fair share of life’s ups and downs, admitted to having a condition known as globophobia. No, it’s not a fear of reading phobia words—though that would be wild—but it’s actually an intense fear of balloons. Yes, you read that right. Balloons.

  • Hoda, chiming in at 60 years young, summed it up perfectly: “Jenna has a fear of balloons.” Jenna confirmed it, adding with a laugh, “I do,” and Hoda playfully added, “And we don’t really want to get into why, but she does.”

But here’s the kicker: Jenna described her reaction to a balloon popping near her head. “If I hear a balloon pop right by my head, I’m down on the ground, I really am,” she confessed. To emphasize the point, Hoda reiterated, “She literally hits the dirt, she’s down on the ground.” Can you picture it? It’s like something out of a comedy sketch, but for Jenna, it’s real life.

Hiking: A Different Kind of Fear

But wait, there’s more. Jenna didn’t stop at globophobia. She also admitted to having another fear—one that’s a little less playful but just as surprising. “I also am scared of … and this is a fear and I hate thinking about it, but I don’t normally get scared of heights, like I can go on rollercoasters, but hiking … I don’t know, I’m scared,” Jenna confessed.

She elaborated, explaining, “Sometimes hiking … when you get to the top, top, top, and you’re like, ‘If I hit this rock, I would fall off,’ I have that!” It’s the kind of fear that sneaks up on you, even if you’re usually fearless in other aspects of life. Jenna’s confession shows that even the bravest among us have their limits.

A Glimpse Into Jenna’s Personal Life

Jenna, the author of Sisters First, shared a personal story about her marriage to Henry Hager, whom she married in 2008. “We used to hike when we first got together and I lived in Latin America for a period,” Jenna recalled. “We would go to each country and we would hike the tallest point and we were in Ecuador, and it was touch and go. I was freaked out!”

Hoda couldn’t help but laugh as Jenna recounted her phobias. Last week, during a similar conversation about childhood obsessions, Hoda had a blast discussing her own childhood bedroom decor. She reminisced about moving into a new home with her daughters, Haley and Hope, while sharing some of her quirks from years past.

  • “I had Barry Manilow and Erik Estrada posters on my wall, so it’s the weirdest combo but I loved both of them,” Hoda shared. “I had a lot of sports trophies and little stuff like that, I had Fred Flintstone and Snoopy sheets and I loved it.”

She continued, “I remember just diving in bed and thinking, ‘What’s better than right here laying with the Peanuts characters?’ And I had a million stuffed animals. I loved stuffies, I had them lined up.”

Jenna then revealed her own childhood bedroom was “small and mainly windows,” but she had one obsession that stuck with her well into her 20s. “And I really loved Barbie … until I was 22!” she confessed, prompting Hoda to chime in with, “Yeah that was your big thing, very odd.” Jenna playfully responded, “Well you had stuffies!”
