When Jenna and Savannah Turned the Set Into a Karaoke Bar
It wasn’t your average morning on the set of Today when Al Roker found himself in the middle of an impromptu sing-along. During a recent Pop Start segment, co-hosts Jenna Bush Hager and Savannah Guthrie decided to break out their vocal cords and belt out “Islands in the Stream,” the classic duet by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers. The two harmonized beautifully, but Al, sitting right between them, wasn’t exactly thrilled with the surprise performance.
Al’s Reaction to the Musical Mayhem
As the song filled the studio, Al, 70, couldn’t help but express his discomfort. He took off his glasses, rubbed the bridge of his nose, and let out a plea that echoed through the studio. “Please, no, make it stop! Make it stop!” he shouted, clearly overwhelmed by the unexpected musical interlude. Despite his protests, Jenna and Savannah kept singing, wrapping their arms around Al in a playful gesture that only added to the chaos.
Meanwhile, Carson Daly, hosting the entertainment segment from the other side of the desk, chimed in with his own reaction. “Oh God, please no,” Carson, 51, could be heard saying as he buried his face in a pillow to block out the sound. Even Craig Melvin, who was sitting nearby, couldn’t help but smile at the absurdity of the moment.

The Fans Weigh In
The clip quickly made its way to Today’s official Instagram page, where it was captioned, “Uncle Al is tired.” Fans of the show flooded the comments section with love for Al, who has been a beloved fixture on the program for decades. “Al is my favorite. He just makes you want to give him the biggest hug. He exudes warmth,” one fan wrote. Another added, “Al is the absolute best.”
Of course, not everyone was as impressed with Jenna and Savannah’s singing. Some viewers felt the musical interlude detracted from their professionalism as hosts. “Please just stop their singing, I love them and this undermines their abilities as hosts & correspondents,” one commenter said. Another chimed in, “I can’t! Was Hoda holding this show together? Bring her back, please!!”

Where’s Sheinelle?
Many viewers also took the opportunity to express their longing for Sheinelle Jones, who has been on hiatus from the show. Sheinelle, 46, addressed her absence in a heartfelt Instagram post on January 15. “I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show. I want to share with you that I’m taking time to deal with a family health matter,” she wrote. “It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to have not only the support of my Today show family, but to also have all of you. Your kindness means so much to me. I’ll see you soon. Love, Sheinelle.”
Sheinelle’s absence has left a noticeable void on the show, and fans have been vocal about their support for her. “You are beloved by us all! So many prayers for complete healing. Your family is our family,” one commenter wrote. Another added, “I appreciate you sharing this with us so much because you have most definitely been missed. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family as things progress.”
