Justin Sylvester Spills the Beans About His New Love
It was a moment filled with laughter, surprise, and heartfelt emotion as Justin Sylvester, the charismatic cohost of Today With Jenna & Friends, revealed a personal milestone in his life. During his appearance on the show, Justin, 38, shared a touching story with Jenna Bush Hager, 43, about how he accidentally declared his love to his new boyfriend, propelling their relationship to the next level.
Justin recounted the incident with a smile, saying, “I was talking to a guy that I was kind of dating at the time. [We were] just starting out. It was fresh. You know how it goes, you're on the phone with your girlfriends, and you're like, ‘Oh I love you. Catch you later.’ Well, this time, I said it to him! He just said ‘Bye,’ and I blurted out, ‘I love you. Catch you later.’”
Justin Learns a Lesson About Multitasking
Reflecting on the moment, Justin admitted that he was texting at the same time he was on the phone, which is how the phrase slipped out. “That’s why I don’t talk on the phone and text at the same time anymore,” he joked. He went on to explain the aftermath of the unexpected confession. “He gasped, and I hung up the phone. I was like, ‘Oh no, what have I done?’ And then he calls back, and I was like, ‘I can’t do this. You cannot say anything.’ But he was amazing. He said, ‘I love you too, and I was going to tell you that I love you as well.’ It was a really big moment for me.”

Jenna’s Surprise Twist
As the conversation unfolded, Jenna assumed that Justin and his partner were no longer together. But to her astonishment, Justin revealed that they were still very much a couple. “Justin! What is happening here?” Jenna exclaimed, clearly surprised. Justin couldn’t help but laugh at her reaction and added, “In Louisiana right now, my mother has just dropped her Folgers all over my sister and her child. She’s probably going to call me next.”
Why Did Justin Keep His Relationship a Secret?
When Jenna asked why Justin hadn’t shared his relationship details earlier, he admitted that he wasn’t sure if he wanted to discuss it on air. “It’s a personal thing, you know? But now that it’s out there, I’m happy to share it with everyone,” he said. Jenna then playfully inquired about how Justin’s boyfriend felt about this public declaration. “This is a public launch,” she teased. Justin joked that since his boyfriend was on the West Coast, he still had three hours to let him know.

Love Takes a Leap
Before wrapping up the topic, Jenna asked Justin if his accidental “I love you” was the turning point that deepened their relationship. “Yeah, it kind of fast-tracked things. I freaked out a little and maybe ignored him for two days, but it turned out to be great,” Justin shared. “It’s been an incredible six months. People at home might think, ‘Six months?’ But in gay years, that’s like six years. We’re really deep. I have two kids at this point, so it’s serious!”
Justin has always kept his personal life private, and during his time with Jenna, he chose not to reveal the name of his new boyfriend. However, during a previous appearance on Today with Hoda Kotb in August 2024, Justin opened up about his dating life. When Hoda, 60, asked what Justin was looking for in a partner, he admitted, “I don’t know what I’m looking for. It’s my problem! I know, I know. I see a therapist!” He added, “I’ve been trying to figure out what I need and what I can handle, but I feel like my man is in New York.”
