Christina Sandera's Cause of Death Confirmed
Five days after her passing, the world now knows the cause of death for Clint Eastwood’s long-time girlfriend, Christina Sandera. At the age of 61, Christina left us due to a heart attack on July 18. A representative from the Monterey County Health Department confirmed this news to The New York Post on Tuesday, July 23. It’s a tough pill to swallow, especially for Clint, who's been with her for nearly a decade.
According to The Post, Christina’s death certificate lists her immediate cause of death as cardiac arrhythmia, which refers to an abnormality in the timing or pattern of the heartbeat. Additionally, atherosclerotic coronary artery disease, a condition where plaque builds up in the coronary arteries, was noted as a contributing factor. It's heartbreaking to think about how these health issues ultimately led to her untimely passing.

The Journey of Clint and Christina
Clint and Christina’s relationship began in 2014 when she worked as a hostess at Clint’s Mission Ranch Hotel and Restaurant in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. They started dating shortly after meeting, and though they kept their relationship mostly private, Christina occasionally accompanied Clint to high-profile events like the Academy Awards in 2015 and several movie premieres, including Sully in 2016, The Mule in 2018, The 15:17 to Paris in 2018, and Richard Jewell in 2019.
One of their most memorable appearances together was at the premiere of The Mule, where they were joined by Clint’s first wife, Margaret “Maggie” Johnson, and his children. At the time, it was believed to be Clint’s final acting role, making the moment even more special. Clint knows this might be his last film, and he wanted all of his kids to be there, as an insider exclusively told Closer. It’s clear that Clint values family and cherishes the moments he shares with his loved ones.

Clint’s relationship with his first wife, Maggie, remains amicable. They were married from 1953 to 1984, though they separated 20 years before their divorce was finalized. He later married Dina Ruiz in 1996, but they divorced in 2014. Despite not having children with Christina, Clint has eight adult kids from previous relationships, including Laurie, Kimber, Kyle, Alison, Scott, Kathryn, Francesca, and Morgan.
Family Mourns Christina’s Passing
Morgan, Clint’s youngest child with Dina, expressed her grief over Christina’s death. “Thank you Christina for being a good partner to my Dad. You will be missed,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories, sharing a photo from her wedding day. Clint, Christina, and Morgan’s seven siblings were all present when she married Tanner Koopmans in June. It’s clear that Christina was an integral part of the family, and her absence is deeply felt.
A Life Well-Lived
An insider told Closer in May 2020 that Clint was “truly happy” with Christina. “She’s fun, easygoing, and his kids like her too. She’s on an even keel like he is,” the source said. However, in June 2021, another insider revealed that Clint didn’t see any point in marrying again. “He loves Christina, but marriage isn’t something he needs,” the source explained. It’s evident that their relationship was built on love, respect, and companionship, which made it all the more special.
