‘Blue Bloods’ Villain Is Returning to the Show for Dramatic Episode

As the beloved series Blue Bloods wraps up its final season on CBS, fans are in for a treat with a host of guest stars making a return to say goodbye to the Reagan family. The show, which has always been about family, duty, and honor, is pulling out all the stops to give its viewers a memorable farewell.

A Familiar Face Returns

Just ahead of the 14th episode of season 14, airing on Friday, November 8, it was announced that Lori Loughlin would be making her way back to the small screen. She’s reprising her role as Grace Edwards, a character who has left a lasting impression on fans since her first appearance in 2016. Grace, the widow of police officer Martin Edwards, who died in the line of duty, is a woman with a story that resonates deeply with audiences. Her return this season seems to bring more than just nostalgia—it brings a storm of emotions and unresolved conflicts.

Grace Edwards: A Character with Depth

When Lori Loughlin first stepped into the role of Grace Edwards back in 2016, she brought a depth and complexity to the character that made her stand out. Grace is the widow of Martin Edwards, a police officer who gave his life in the line of duty. After Martin's tragic passing, Grace turned to Frank Reagan, portrayed by the legendary Tom Selleck, seeking his help to dissuade her son from following in his father’s footsteps and joining the police force. Frank, being the honest and principled man he is, told her the truth: the job comes with inherent risks, no matter how much we wish it didn’t.

Fast forward to 2024, and Grace is back, this time with a fiery determination. Danny Reagan, played by the ever-charismatic Donnie Wahlberg, is up for an award recognizing his exceptional work as a detective. However, in a promo for the upcoming episode titled “New York Minute,” it seems Grace isn’t exactly thrilled about this. The episode promises to deliver a dramatic showdown between Grace and the Reagan family.

The official synopsis of the episode reads: “Danny and Baez [Marisa Ramirez] scrutinize an art gallery suspected of selling counterfeit pieces after a detective investigating the establishment is murdered. Meanwhile, Eddie faces a moral dilemma when she discovers her former partner turned social worker, Rachel Witten (Lauren Patten), crossed ethical boundaries to help a mentally ill client. And Frank is left fuming when an award Danny was set to receive is revoked by none other than Grace Edwards (Lori Loughlin), the widow of an NYPD officer killed in the line of duty.”

In the preview, Grace makes it clear that Danny’s reputation as a "loose cannon" is not sitting well with her. Frank Reagan tries to defend Danny, saying, "My son is a decorated cop and a fine family man." Grace retorts, "He’s also from New York’s most visible cop family and enjoys a reputation as a very loose cannon." It’s clear that Grace is not just here for a friendly visit—she’s here to settle scores.

Lori Loughlin's Journey Back to Acting

Lori Loughlin’s return to the screen comes five years after her involvement in the infamous college admissions scandal alongside her husband, Mossimo Giannulli. Now, she’s embracing life with a renewed perspective and passion for her craft. In an interview with First for Women in April, Lori shared her thoughts on perseverance and resilience.

“Every day, we’re met with different obstacles, but it’s all in how you approach them,” Lori said. “For me, it’s about persevering. As an actress, I’ve heard ‘no’ countless times, so I just focus on being myself and not letting negativity take hold.”

Lori also reflected on how she deals with negativity and criticism. “It’s not always easy to put your best foot forward, but I think it starts with kindness,” she explained. “If you meet someone who’s having a tough day or is a bit prickly, instead of engaging in negativity, I try to meet them with a different approach. Kindness can go a long way.”
