Daniel Craig Talks About His Indifference Toward The Next James Bond

There’s been a lot of buzz about who the next James Bond will be, but Daniel Craig, who's been part of the franchise for years, doesn’t seem to be too concerned about it. In fact, he’s pretty laid-back about the whole thing, as if it doesn’t weigh on his mind at all. This is a man who’s lived and breathed the role of Bond, but now that he’s moving on, he’s ready to let the next guy take the reins without much fuss.

Craig Speaks Out: “I Don’t Care”

During a recent interview with Variety, Daniel Craig, now 56, sat down alongside his Queer costar Drew Starkey to chat about his career and the future of the James Bond franchise. When asked who he hopes will step into the iconic role next, his response was refreshingly candid. “I don’t care,” he said with a shrug, showing that he’s more focused on moving forward rather than looking back or worrying about what comes next.

It’s not just about the next Bond, though. The conversation took a fun turn when Drew and Daniel were tasked with guessing how many James Bond movies Daniel has starred in. “I’m gonna get it wrong,” Daniel said with a laugh, and Drew quickly chimed in, “Too many.” The pair shared a laugh, and Daniel agreed, “Exactly.” He admitted he wasn’t entirely sure himself, jokingly counting aloud, “One, two, three… five? Five.”

Despite Daniel’s nonchalant attitude, the official announcement of the next James Bond star has yet to be made. However, sources suggest that Daniel Craig might actually have a significant say in the decision-making process. Unlike previous Bond actors, Daniel’s relationship with Barbara Broccoli, the coproducer of the franchise, gives him a unique level of influence over the choice.

“Unlike every actor who has played Bond before him, Daniel is poised to have a significant vote in who ultimately succeeds him in the role,” an insider close to the situation explained. This close bond between Daniel and Barbara is what sets him apart from his predecessors. “They love each other and trust each other like a brother and sister, and they both want to stay in each other’s lives beyond Daniel’s time as James Bond,” the insider added.

    Fan Favorites for the Role

As the speculation heats up, fans have been throwing out names for who they’d like to see as the next Bond. Among the top contenders are Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Henry Cavill, two actors who have captured the public’s imagination with their previous roles. However, it’s not just about fan favorites; the decision ultimately lies with those who know the franchise inside and out.

Barbara Broccoli has previously assured fans that the process of selecting the next Bond is a deliberate one. “Nobody’s in the running,” she told Deadline back in June 2022. “We’re working out where to go with him, we’re talking that through. There isn’t a script and we can’t come up with one until we decide how we’re going to approach the next film because, really, it’s a reinvention of Bond. We’re reinventing who he is and that takes time. I’d say that filming is at least two years away.”

    Pierce Brosnan Weighs In

Another former Bond, Pierce Brosnan, has also chimed in on the conversation. He’s openly expressed his admiration for Cillian Murphy, suggesting that the Irish actor would make a fantastic Bond. “Cillian would do a magnificent job as James Bond on His Majesty’s Secret Service,” Pierce said during the Oscar Wilde Awards in Los Angeles. However, Cillian, who recently won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in Oppenheimer, seems less enthusiastic about the idea. “No. I think I’m a bit old for that,” he told reporters after Pierce mentioned his name.
