Goldie Hawn Says Being a Grandmother Brings Her 'Incredible Joy'

Let’s talk about Goldie Hawn, one of Hollywood’s most beloved figures. She’s not just shining on the big screen anymore—she’s living her best life surrounded by family, including her eight precious grandkids! The star of Cactus Flower opened up about what it’s like being a grandmother and how it’s added a whole new layer of joy to her life.

“When your children start having children, something magical happens,” said Goldie, now 79, during an intimate conversation with Hoda Kotb on her “Making Space” podcast. “It’s like this incredible web of connection that starts weaving itself, and it’s just beautiful. But here’s the thing—you’ve got to remember, they’re the parents now. As much as we might want to chime in with advice, it’s their turn to lead the way.”

Goldie shared how she and her partner, Kurt Russell, approach this new chapter in their lives. “Kurt and I make sure to give them space. We don’t hover or second-guess their decisions. We trust them fully because they’re doing an amazing job raising these kids,” she added.

Goldie and Kurt’s family is a true testament to love and partnership. Goldie welcomed her children, Kate and Oliver Hudson, with her ex-husband, Bill Hudson. Kurt, who’s 73, has a son named Boston Russell from his previous marriage to Season Hubley. Goldie and Kurt began their legendary romance in 1983, eventually welcoming their son, Wyatt Russell, in 1986.

Fast forward more than four decades, and this power couple is still thriving. They take pride in being part of a large, loving family. Together, they’re grandparents to eight grandchildren: Kate’s kids Wyatt, Bingham, and Rani; Oliver’s kids Wilder, Bodhi, and Rio; and Wyatt’s kids Buddy and Boone.

    The Grandkids’ Age Gap

Goldie mentioned that her grandkids span a wide range of ages, from a baby who’s just 9 months old to her eldest grandchild, who’s already 20. “It’s quite the spectrum, but that’s what makes it so special,” she said with a smile. “Being a ‘go-go grandmother’ is a role I absolutely adore.”

She emphasized that while she loves being a grandmother, she knows her place. “I’m not the boss anymore. I’m just here to bring happiness into their lives and lend an ear if they need it. It’s all about supporting them and letting them lead the way,” Goldie explained.

    A Heartwarming Memory

Goldie also shared a touching moment involving her eldest grandson, Wyatt. “Wyatt used to say to me, ‘Mother, may I kiss your royal ring?’ because I’ve always loved wearing big, bold rings,” she recalled fondly. “It’s moments like these that remind me how much they adore us. And that’s something we should never forget as parents. No one will ever love you the way your children do. That’s the most precious part of life.”

    Cherishing Every Moment

The star of Snatched reminded parents to cherish every moment with their kids because time flies by faster than we think. “One day, they’ll be out living their own lives, and you’ll wonder why they don’t call as often. But for now, you’re their world—you’re the queen, the center of their universe. That’s something truly special to hold onto,” she said.

Last month, Goldie opened up about her enduring relationship with Kurt Russell, explaining why their bond remains so strong after all these years. “We’re incredibly aligned when it comes to our sense of humor. That’s huge,” she said on a recent episode of Good Morning America. “Of course, we’re different people with different personalities, but there’s so much about Kurt that I adore, and his humor is definitely one of those things.”

Goldie also mentioned how she and Kurt prioritize spending quality time together. “Even though our kids have grown up, Kurt and I still love being with each other. Back in the day, the kids would often ask, ‘Can it just be us, Mommy?’ And honestly, that’s how we still feel,” she concluded.
