She’s the life of every party, known for her radiant smile and boundless energy, but even Marie Osmond has moments when life feels heavy. In a candid Instagram post on February 9, Marie, now 60, shared her feelings about the upcoming anniversary of Michael’s death. “February is a tough month for me,” she wrote. “It’s a time when the memories of losing my son Michael flood back, making it hard to focus on anything else. As I prayed for them and their families, I began to think about everyone I love who’s going through trials and unimaginable loss.”

Marie’s reflections didn’t stop there. In the same week, she shared the heartbreaking news of losing another cherished friend, John Lauck, the president and CEO of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, who tragically passed away in a biking accident. To make matters worse, her friend and attorney, Paul Sorrell, lost his daughter Brynne to cancer at just 26 years old. “I know the pain of losing a child all too well,” Marie confessed. “But I also remember the incredible people who stood by me during that time, offering their love and support. It may feel small or insignificant to simply ‘be there,’ but those acts of kindness are so powerful and healing.”
Gratitude Amid Grief
Marie, who is a mother to eight children—Stephen, 36, Jessica, 32, Rachael, 30, Brandon, 23, Brianna, 22, Matthew, 20, and Abigail, 17—shared how she’s found solace in her faith and the legacy of her son Michael. “Though this is an incredibly difficult chapter in my life, Michael’s passing has deepened my appreciation for the Savior’s atonement,” she explained. “It’s through these trials that I’ve come to understand the true meaning of grace and mercy.”
Since Michael’s passing in 2010, Marie has been unflinchingly honest about her journey toward healing. In a 2019 interview with Closer Weekly, she spoke openly about learning to live with the profound sadness of losing a child. “At first, I thought I understood sorrow, but you don’t truly know it until you’ve walked through it,” she said. “There’s no joy in sorrow, but there is joy in knowing that others have faced similar pain and survived. That’s what keeps me going—knowing that love and compassion can bridge even the deepest wounds.”
A Legacy of Love

Marie’s strength and grace continue to inspire fans around the world. Through her openness about grief, she reminds us that even in the darkest moments, there’s hope and healing. “You keep moving forward,” she concluded. “There’s joy in understanding someone else’s pain and offering them comfort. That’s the beauty of love—it carries us through everything.”
