From Screen to Real Life: D’Arcy Carden’s Heartwarming Bonds on 'The Good Place'

For D’Arcy Carden, being part of The Good Place isn’t just about delivering unforgettable performances as Janet, the all-knowing afterlife assistant. It’s about forming deep, genuine connections with her fellow cast members that extend far beyond the set. Over four seasons, this talented ensemble cast, including the likes of Kristen Bell and Ted Danson, has become a second family for the 40-year-old actress.

“It’s more than just a show—it’s a real family dynamic,” D’Arcy shares, her voice brimming with enthusiasm. “We’ve spent so much time together, both on-screen and off, that we’ve built these incredible relationships that go way beyond the characters we portray.”

An Unforgettable Sleepover at Ted Danson's Home

One of the most memorable bonding moments for D’Arcy happened when Ted Danson, who plays the lovable and mischievous Michael, invited the entire cast and their significant others over for an overnight stay. “About a year ago, Ted had this amazing idea to host a sleepover at his place,” D’Arcy recalls, her eyes lighting up at the memory. “It was such a blast!”

  • Ted’s home, she explains, is nothing short of a sanctuary. With plenty of bedrooms for everyone, the event felt like a retreat where everyone could truly relax and unwind. “Ted and his lovely wife, Mary Steenburgen, went all out. They even prepared breakfast for us the next morning. It was absolutely perfect.”

Ted & Mary: The Real-Life Power Couple

When it comes to Ted and Mary, D’Arcy is nothing but admiration. “They really are the sweetest couple you could ever hope to meet,” she gushes. “There are times when you see couples in the public eye and you wonder if their affection is genuine. Let me tell you, with Ted and Mary, it’s absolutely real. They’re everything you’d want in a partnership and then some.”

The chemistry between Ted and Mary is palpable, both on-screen and off. D’Arcy adds, “Their love for each other is something truly special. You can feel it in everything they do together. It’s rare to find a relationship as strong and genuine as theirs, and I’m so grateful to have witnessed it firsthand.”

A Cast United: Double Dates and Lifelong Friendships

What makes The Good Place cast unique is how well everyone gets along outside of filming. D’Arcy notes that it’s not uncommon for the group to enjoy double dates or casual hangouts. “We’ve had so many fun outings throughout the years, whether it’s grabbing dinner, going to a show, or just chilling by the pool,” she says. “It’s not just about the work; it’s about the friendships we’ve formed.”

While D’Arcy has certainly bonded with her fellow female co-stars like Jameela Jamil, she also cherishes the moments spent with the male leads’ partners. “I’ve gotten really close with William Harper and Manny Jacinto’s girlfriends too. It’s been amazing to see how everyone supports each other both personally and professionally.”

Neighborly Love: Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard

As if the on-set camaraderie wasn’t enough, D’Arcy’s friendship with Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard has blossomed into something even more special—neighborhood hangouts. “We’re lucky to live close to each other, so we’ve spent a lot of time together outside of work,” she reveals. “Whether it’s pool parties or impromptu visits, Kristen and Dax are always up for a good time.”
