More than four decades have passed since the iconic musical 'Grease' first hit the big screen, but John Travolta still remembers his favorite tune from the film he sang alongside Olivia Newton-John. The legendary film continues to resonate with fans worldwide, and its impact on pop culture remains undeniable.
During a recent appearance at the G’Day USA: Standing Together event on January 25, the 65-year-old actor opened up about his most cherished moment from the movie. Speaking to Closer Weekly and other reporters, John revealed that his favorite song was the one where he got to perform alongside his iconic co-star, Olivia. "I think 'You're The One That I Want' because we're actually performing it together," he shared with a smile.
Why 'You're The One That I Want' Stands Out
John elaborated on his choice, explaining why this particular song holds such a special place in his heart. "'Summer Nights' has its charm, but in that song, we're separate. With 'You're The One That I Want,' we're interacting, and it was a brand-new song," he explained. "It wasn’t part of the original play but was specifically created for us by the talented music producer John Farrar. That made it even more exciting. And if I’m not mistaken, it’s still considered the biggest duet in history. There's a lot of beautiful history tied to that song."

Memories from the Set of 'Grease'
When asked about his best memory from those unforgettable 'Grease' days, John was filled with nostalgia. "Oh gosh, there are so many incredible memories!" he exclaimed. "But if I had to pick one, I’d say singing and dancing was probably my favorite. It was just magical being part of such a vibrant, energetic production. Every day felt like a celebration."
In December 2019, John and Olivia reunited for the first time in over four decades to recreate their iconic characters for a special event called Meet n’ Grease, held at the Coral Sky Amphitheater in West Palm Beach, Florida. Fans were thrilled to see the legendary duo back in character, bringing the magic of 'Grease' to life once again.
Why They Never Dated
Despite their undeniable chemistry on screen, John and Olivia never pursued a romantic relationship off-screen. During an appearance on the No Filter podcast, Olivia explained why they decided to keep things platonic. "We were both with other people when we were filming, so it just didn’t happen," she said. "And honestly, I think it was for the best. It helped maintain that tension and chemistry between us. If we had dated, it could have changed everything—or even ruined it. But as it stands, we’ve remained great friends all these years, and that’s something truly special."
